Birmingham City transfer news: shocking Manneh update, Lyndon Dykes twist, and Brighton deal inspected

The start of the transfer season has been particularly hectic in terms of Birmingham City news, as Chris Davies’ team hopes to move closer to the play-offs between now and May.

With his side presently 14th in the Championship and seven points behind sixth-place Watford, the Blues manager will remain optimistic that the deficit can be closed over the course of their remaining 20 league games.

At the moment, the Second City side has added a single, but significant, player to their roster: 28-year-old German left-back Kai Wagner from the Philadelphia Union, while three players have left: Dion Sanderson, Emil Hansson, and former Brighton loanee Eiran Cashin.

There are exactly three weeks until the close of business at 7PM on Monday, February 2nd, with it being widely discussed in the lead-up to, and throughout, the window, that Blues must oversee a successful window if they are to break into the top six after an inconsistent first half of the season.

According to Football League World, up to eight first-team players might leave St. Andrew’s in that timeframe, while Davies and his director of football, Craig Gardner, continue to look for new players to improve his squad in critical areas.

With that stated, here’s a round-up of the most recent transfer news in B9.

Blues make agreement for Mjallby AIF’s seven-goal forward. Abdoulie Manneh collapsed.

There is no better place to begin than with the shocking developments that have seen Blues’ pursuit of Abdoulie Manneh from Swedish Allsvenskan champions Mjallby AIF collapse, as FLW exclusively disclosed on Tuesday morning.

Manneh had previously been linked with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, including Coventry City and Stoke City. However, it appeared that the former Gambian international was on his way to St. Andrew’s after a permanent transfer was initially agreed upon, according to sister publication GiveMeSport.

Manneh was expected to have a medical in the West Midlands on Monday before the transfer was completed. However, FLW understands that an 11th-hour twist has surfaced, posing a serious stumbling block in the transaction.

It is unknown what is causing the standoff, but unless a quick reversal occurs, a deal for the highly ranked talent is off the table and will not be reconsidered.

Such circumstances have also had an impact on Lewis Koumas’ future, as they may postpone the 19-year-old’s projected return to Liverpool, despite the fact that he has started the last two league and cup games.

How much will Birmingham City pay Girona for Jhon Solis?

While the aforementioned developments would be frustrating, the Blues are allegedly close to signing Girona’s Colombian midfielder, Jhon Solis, after fending off opposition from Liga MX club Tigres UANL.

The 21-year-old will provide depth to a midfield department that already features Paik Seung-ho and Tommy Doyle, and the ambitious club’s plans for the deal have been disclosed.

Despite initial reports that Solis would be the subject of a £4 million+ transfer, Spanish outlet SPORT has since reported that an initial loan fee of €500,000 (£430,000) has been agreed upon, and that the man who has made 49 appearances for the Catalan side could become a permanent member of Davies’ squad if certain conditions are met.

According to the aforementioned source, Blues are considering a permanent deal worth €8 million (£6.9 million), with the contract becoming required if Solis makes 11 appearances in royal blue.

Third Championship side enters competition to capture Birmingham City forward Lyndon Dykes.

Lyndon Dykes, the Blues’ striker, has recently been the subject of much leave rumors, and another divisional opponent has entered the race for his signing.

In current window, the 48-time Scotland international has already emerged as a permanent target for Charlton Athletic, with Ipswich Town reportedly interested in a loan agreement.

However, the Daily Mail reports that Leicester City are also considering a temporary move for the 30-year-old, who is seeking to make Steve Clarke’s FIFA World Cup team.

FLW did, however, exclusively report last week that Dykes’ prospective exit would not be sanctioned until Davies could add fresh reinforcements to his assault, implying that a trade could be completed later in the window.

However, a move to the King Power Stadium would allow the experienced forward to reunite with his former Queens Park Rangers manager, Marti Cifuentes.

Birmingham City consider a permanent move for Brighton loanee James Beadle

GiveMeSport also reported that Birmingham will consider a permanent deal for Brighton loanee James Beadle at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old shot-stopper’s initial loan agreement with Blues did not include any additional stipulations that could trigger a long-term transfer. However, Davies has said that a deal might be reached.

The England youth international didn’t make his league debut until a 1-1 tie with Wrexham on October 3rd, and he has since made 19 appearances in all competitions, keeping three clean sheets.

When asked if Beadle may move to the Midlands in the future, Davies said: “It’s absolutely feasible – I think James is relaxed about it – we are.

“He’s joyful and playing. Brighton is also thrilled with it.

“If it’s something that suits everyone – then I don’t see any reason why not,” said the man.
