Leicester City considering surprise Birmingham City deal in Charlton Athletic transfer blow.

Leicester City are interested in signing Lyndon Dykes on loan from Birmingham City, although Charlton Athletic remain hopeful of landing the striker.

The Scotland international was anticipated to depart Blues in the summer after their promotion back to the Championship, but a late deal to Hibs fell through, so he stayed in Chris Davies’ plans at St. Andrews.

Dykes has battled for consistent playing time since then, but he has made 21 appearances, the great majority of which have come from the bench, much as he did in League One.

Dykes has scored key late goals for Blues this season, but a switch could occur this month. Dykes will not be permitted to go until a replacement is found, though the ex-QPR attacker has plenty of suitors at the present.

Leicester City are looking to sign Birmingham City’s Lyndon Dykes, while Charlton Athletic are also interested.

With the World Cup approaching, Dykes will want more minutes before the tournament, therefore a move has always been planned for this month, and Charlton was expected to win the race for his signature.

However, in a potential twist, the Daily Mail reports that Leicester are now attempting to bring the 30-year-old in on loan, though a deal may be difficult.

The update indicates that the financial circumstances at the King Power Stadium may necessitate exits before they can bring in players, although Marti Cifuentes is ‘desperate’ to bolster his assault if feasible.

Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid are the Foxes’ key strikers right now, but none of them have particularly impressed this season in what has been an uninspiring campaign for Leicester.

Lyndon Dykes has proven he can be productive in the Championship.

This is hardly the type of acquisition that will delight Leicester fans, but that is the reality they face right now.

Even if it isn’t a popular choice, you can see why signing someone like Dykes in the short term makes sense.

First and foremost, he will be determined to prove himself, as he will be eager not only to board the plane for Scotland this summer, but also to demonstrate that he should be given the starting number nine shirt by Steve Clarke at the World Cup.

Furthermore, he will not require any time to adjust to the demands of the league because he is familiar with them.

Dykes would be pleased to be a focal point, and his work ethic and ability to hold the ball and bring others into play make him an excellent target man for this Leicester club.

With Stephy Mavididi, Jordan James, and Abdul Fatawu in behind, Leicester require someone who can provide a presence and occupy defenders, giving those three time and room to thrive.

So, Dykes could do a job, but Charlton are clearly still interested in bringing him in, and it will be interesting to watch where he ends up, as it is clear he needs to leave Birmingham this month, as he has made some significant contributions but has spent far too much time on the bench.
