Henrik Pedersen calls for help as Sheffield Wednesday crisis worsens

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has indicated that the struggling Championship club is approaching the EFL for assistance with their growing injury problems.

According to the Sheffield Star, the Owls had yet another weekend of absentees and injuries.

The Danish manager stood and watched goalkeeper Pierce Charles be replaced an hour into their FA Cup third round defeat to Premier League high-flyers Brentford.

There are suspicions that the 20-year-old has injured his shoulder again, just a month after recovering from a similar injury that caused him to miss three months of play.

Charles joins an enormous injury list at Hillsborough, which is quickly spiraling into turmoil when Dominic Iorfa joined it prior to the Bees’ cup visit with a groin issue.

The EFL has enabled Sheffield Wednesday to sign two players on no-fee loan terms this month, but it appears that will not be enough.

Henrik Pedersen says Sheffield Wednesday needs more aid.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen hopes to add to his team by bringing in new players, despite the EFL allowing only a few this summer.Yes, we attempt to knock every day. Pedersen told the Sheffield Star that they placed pressure on themselves to achieve their goals. We need assistance, and we do everything we can to acquire it as soon as possible. Right now, there are two players, and this is where we are starting from, so let’s see.”

The gruelling schedule of a regular EFL season appears to be having an extra impact on the short-handed Wednesday side, which began the season with fewer senior players than most due to various restrictions and embargos imposed by former owner Dejphon Chansiri’s final few months at Hillsborough.

As the season progressed, it became increasingly difficult to field a competitive team, with the Owls winning only one of their 25 league games this season.

Pedersen acknowledges that adding players would improve Wednesday’s competitiveness in the second half of the season. However, he prioritizes reducing the pressure on his present crop. It’s for both the outcomes and the health. “Having three or four senior players makes it difficult,” he explained. However, we attempt to do our best with the resources we have and the circumstances we face. This is where we expend our energy.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s roster problem is worsening week after week.

Logan Stretch made his debut on Saturday, taking over for Pierce Charles. There will be some hope that this injury will not result in a similar layoff as earlier this season, not just for the sake of the 20-year-old, but also because of the impact on recruitment elsewhere.

Ideally, Henrik Pedersen would utilize his two loan spots to bolster a thin outfield squad, but if Charles is projected to miss several months of activity, one of those slots is expected to be used for goalkeeping.

When the Northern Irish international was ruled out earlier this season, Cardiff City’s Ethan Horvath was called up, but he left at the end of the season after Charles returned.

Due to Wednesday’s poor predicament, the most vital position on the pitch is goalkeeper, as opponents take more shots against the Owls than any other Championship team. As a result, a veteran player, rather than an inexperienced kid, may be required to play in goal at all times.

As a result, if only two new players arrive this month, Charles’ injury may limit the ability to strengthen a struggling outfield.
