Ronnie Edwards was a huge success on loan at QPR in 2025, and the Southampton player is now likely to return to West London permanently.

According to West London Sport, QPR have agreed to pay £4.5 million to re-sign Southampton’s Ronnie Edwards permanently.
QPR are hoping to make some savvy January transfer window deals to boost their chances of promotion to the Premier League. The play-offs are firmly within reach for Julien Stephan’s Hoops, who are four points behind the top six in 11th.
With some strong arrivals, 2026 might be a banner year for the R’s. According to reports, the club plans to make a big statement in the market.
According to West London Sport, QPR has reached an agreement with Championship rivals Southampton to sign centre-back Ronnie Edwards permanently. A £4.5 million fee has been agreed to bring the 22-year-old back to Loftus Road, little over a year after he arrived on a half-season loan.
The team attempted to re-sign Edwards in the summer but was unable to reach an agreement. Despite a slide down the pecking order at St. Mary’s, the great defender is expected to return.
QPR fans will delight with Ronnie Edwards’ permanent homecoming.
After impressing for Peterborough United, Edwards moved to Southampton in 2024. Many had expected him to go directly to the Premier League, but considering the Saints’ track record of developing players, it seemed like a good decision for the youngster.
However, opportunities on the South Coast are limited. It triggered his initial loan transfer to QPR this time last year, and Edwards seized the opportunity to demonstrate his ability at Championship level.
His efforts gained him a spot in Will Still’s plans, but after losing his position and the old boss’ departure, Edwards has struggled to find work. Moving on from St. Mary’s allows him to play on a regular basis again, and the Hoops will gladly offer him that opportunity.
Edwards was a huge success in West London previously, and his permanent return will be a popular signing. At £4.5 million, it is a statement signing from the R’s.
