Hull City and West Bromwich Albion reportedly made proposals for Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper Remy Descamps at the start of the current winter transfer window.
That is according to the French outlet Le Progres, which published a story on Tuesday evening regarding the aforementioned transfer moves.
The Tigers and Baggies have had very different seasons in the Championship so far, with Sergej Jakirovic’s side currently 11 places and 10 points ahead of the West Midlands outfit, who, undoubtedly, have far more pressing issues to deal with right now than the need for squad reinforcements.
It was confirmed on Tuesday morning that Albion had parted ways with former Hull, Tottenham Hotspur, and England midfielder Ryan Mason after 26 league matches in charge, with a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night serving as the final nail in the coffin for the 34-year-old’s first full-time managerial position.
The current window allows both second-tier sides to transact business until the scheduled deadline of 7 p.m. on February 2nd, with the current week providing a free schedule until their FA Cup third round matches against divisional rivals Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City, respectively.
However, it must be noted that both the East Yorkshire and Black Country clubs have been somewhat hampered in their recent transfer activity, and this situation will undoubtedly affect the Tigers again this winter.
Indeed, Jakirovic, who worked under an embargo at his previous club, Kayserispor, saw Hull placed under a transfer fee restriction by the English Football League (EFL) after the club was found guilty of delayed payments to other sides, with the eventual punishment reduced to the two transfer windows in the 2025/26 season rather than an extension into the following season.
Hull City and West Bromwich Albion submit offers for Lyon goalkeeper Remy Descamps

The goalkeeping situation at both the MKM Stadium and The Hawthorns has been in the spotlight for a variety of reasons this season, with it now clear that Descamps’ services are sought by both Championship sides.
The 29-year-old has spent his whole career in France, starting in the academy ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, the current UEFA Champions League holders.
Descamps signed his first professional contract with the capital club just under ten years ago, but he failed to join the senior squad, going on to Belgian Pro League side Royal Charleroi Sporting before returning to Ligue 1 with FC Nantes in the summer of 2021.
However, throughout a three-year spell at the Stade de la Beaujoire, the shot-stopper made only 17 senior appearances for the club, although keeping eight clean sheets during that time.
Descamps then moved to the Groupama Stadium on a free transfer in August 2024, ahead of Lyon’s difficult season.
Indeed, the seven-time French champions finished in a UEFA Europa League spot, but were previously slated for automatic relegation to Ligue 2 due to well-documented financial concerns before the decision was changed.
Descamps has made only 10 appearances for OL, seven of which have occurred this season, as a substitute for Lucas Perri and, most recently, Dominik Greif.
However, while it is expected that he will play in the upcoming Coupe de France match against LOSC Lille on Sunday, Paulo Fonseca may lose his ‘number two’ position, with Le Progres claiming that Hull and West Brom have made offers for the goalkeeper, who is ESTIMATED to earn around £27,300 per week.
Hull City and West Brom’s goalkeeping problems are analyzed amid Remy Descamps’ transfer links.

As previously stated, Hull’s existing sanctions limit them to signing free transfers or loans that do not require any additional payments. However, Descamps isn’t the only shot-stopper they’ve been associated to.
It was revealed last week that City were interested in Middlesbrough goalkeeper Seny Dieng. However, the Tigers are now at a standstill on this front since Jakirovic needs to unload players before recruiting reinforcements.
Meanwhile, despite being led by former midfielder James Morrison on a temporary basis, Albion have struggled in their goalkeepers’ union since Alex Palmer left for Ipswich Town last year.
Joe Wildsmith and Josh Griffiths have been rotated under Tony Mowbray and the aforementioned Mason, with the latter returning to the Baggies lineup on Monday in what proved to be his former head coach’s last game in command.
As a result, it is not surprising that ties with Descamps have surfaced, but it remains to be seen which of the two teams will be able to recruit him given a slew of intriguing circumstances.
