Birmingham City fans are utterly upset over Chris Davies’ situation following Watford’s statements.

Birmingham City fans have once again had a mixed reaction to Chris Davies’ post-match assessment of his side’s latest setback away from St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park at the hands of Javi Gracia’s in-form Watford.

Ending the club’s current poor overall and away form would have been highly timely for the Blues manager, his squad, and the travelling supporters, having taken two points from home games against Derby County and Southampton prior to the New Year’s Day match at Vicarage Road.

However, they were once again frustrated as experienced midfielder Thomas Ince scored a hat-trick for the Hornets, netting one less in 77 minutes than he had in his previous 69 games for the Hertfordshire club.

Davies, of course, was not on the touchline for Birmingham’s sixth defeat in their last seven Championship away games, having been sent off in the second half of their disputed draw against Southampton on Monday following Cameron Archer’s equaliser.

The 40-year-old was given a vantage point from the press box for the 90-plus minutes in which his side rarely threatened their play-off-chasing opponents, who were able to exact revenge on a 2-1 scoreline in the Second City exactly a month earlier, in what was also a much tighter affair between the two.

Davies has been under intense pressure to improve the Blues’ recent results, having gone winless since the aforementioned victory over Thursday’s opponents on December 1st, and is reportedly facing the sack, with outlets reporting that Knighthead Capital Management has compiled a replacement shortlist that includes ex-loanee and Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.

Bluenoses have undoubtedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the stark disparity in performance standards between home and away games, and the fact that the team is now joint-bottom of the form table just adds to the picture.

As a result, it’s not surprising that there was some disagreement when Davies apologized to people that traveled along the M1.

Birmingham City supporters remain upset over Chris Davies’ post-Watford comments.

It is well documented that Davies’ first full-time managing position is with the Blues, having previously worked as an assistant at Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Throughout his one-and-a-half years at St. Andrew’s, he has gotten ample support from Tom Wagner to rebuild his squad, which will undoubtedly be the case in the now-open winter transfer window if the Blues are to make a late run for the top six, regardless of their current performance trend.

Given his record-breaking first season in B9, Davies quickly became a cult figure among fans, albeit that status is fading as his team is currently in the midst of a second terrible run of form after returning to the second tier as League One winners.

The statistics from Vicarage Road revealed that, once again, the Blues hardly put a glove on their opponents away from home, with only two of their six attempts troubling Watford goalkeeper Egil Selvik.

Davies told official club media after the game: “We just fell far short as a team.

“I have a few ideas. Some (may) be made more public,” he continued. “There are things I need to focus on behind the scenes to ensure that we have the desired influence on matches as a team.

“From my perspective, we fell far short of what was expected. “There’s no doubt about it,” Davies said.

“You must hold your hands up.” I accept full responsibility for this because I am the management.

“I told the players it was not good enough. Well, it’s short.

“When things like these happen, you have to accept responsibility.

“I apologise to the fans for what they’ve seen today, because that’s not a Birmingham City team that’s, typically, since I’ve been here, been in games, and we were well short of that,” added the Blues manager.

Unsurprisingly, numerous Blues fans disagreed with such statements, citing the fact that they had now lost nine of their 13 away games this season.

One supporter has urged for calm to be restored in B9.

Another Bluenose believes Davies still has a lot of tremendous potential to showcase, which could lead to better results over time.

Chris Davies’ career at Birmingham City could be greatly impacted by the Coventry City fixture.

With the Blues needing three points sooner rather than later, the league leaders’ visit to St. Andrew’s on Sunday afternoon would ordinarily fill fans with dread.

However, it will encourage Blues fans that Coventry City has had a small glitch recently, winning only two of their last seven games despite maintaining an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Davies will also be hoping that his team can make up for their bad performance in the reverse fixture at the CBS Arena on September 27th, as well as at Vicarage Road.

Despite having been involved in a number of high-profile matches during his managerial career, the next all-Midlands clash could be decisive in determining the Blues manager’s future.
