Philippe Clement has spoken on Josh Sargent’s future at Norwich City, with the January transfer market being open and interest from West Ham and Burnley.

The Canaries have previously resisted interest in the forward, with doubt about his future lingering in consecutive seasons following his outstanding displays in the Championship.

The American is still an important member of Norfolk’s first-team squad, although there are reports of Premier League interest.

West Ham were connected with a bid for the forward, with reports suggesting that a £20 million asking price would allow them to focus on other targets for the winter transfer window.

Burnley are also reportedly interested in the striker, with Scott Parker’s team looking to stay in the top division in the second half of the season.

Clement has stated that he would love Sargent to stay at Carrow Road beyond the January transfer window, as the club fights to avoid relegation to League One.

He is optimistic that the 25-year-old will stay with the Canaries after the February 2 deadline, with the manager eager to keep his star attacker at the club.

“I want him to be here,” Clement told Paddy Davitt on X.

“I anticipate him to be here.

“We want to keep our top players.

“But I will not spend the next few weeks debating any supposition.

“Only this one time.”

Sargent has made 22 Championship appearances this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists for Norwich.

However, the Canaries have struggled to produce regular results, and the team is struggling to avoid relegation to League One.

Clement was appointed manager in November, taking over from Liam Manning, who had been appointed in the summer.

Sargent’s contract with the Norfolk club runs until the summer of 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating stance with clubs such as West Ham and Burnley.
