“He’s got to go” – Birmingham City submitted a firm transfer demand for Liverpool player

After a poor sequence of results in the Championship, Birmingham City is gearing up for an important January transfer window.

Birmingham owner Tom Wagner stated that the club aimed for back-to-back promotions in the summer, but after a promising start to the season, Chris Davies’ team has struggled in recent weeks.

The Blues were beaten to a 1-1 draw by Southampton on Monday night, with Cameron Archer’s equaliser wiping out Phil Neumann’s opening, and the Midlands club is currently 15th in the table, seven points behind the play-off places.

Amid concerns that Davies’ position is under threat, it remains to be seen whether he will be given the opportunity to remain in charge for the transfer window, but Birmingham is likely to have a busy month, with both incomings and outgoings.

Forward Lewis Koumas might leave St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park next month after failing to score or assist in 18 appearances since joining on loan from Liverpool in the summer, with only five coming from the start.

As Koumas continues to battle for playing time, it appears like the Premier League winners may be willing to cut his time with the Blues short, with the Daily Mail reporting this week that his status “could be looked at” in January.

Birmingham City urged to cancel Lewis Koumas’ agreement with Liverpool in January.

When asked if he would like to see Koumas’ loan terminated in January, FLW’s Birmingham City fan analyst Jason Moore argued it would be the best decision for all sides, saying he has not been pleased by the 20-year-old this season.

“For me, he’s got to go back,” Jason told FLW.

“He doesn’t really provide anything.

“He is a quick player, but he never seems to beat his opponent.

“It was just a borrowing maneuver that didn’t pan out.

“He undoubtedly expected to come here and play football, which surprises me given we’ve practically signed Demarai Gray on the left side.

“It wasn’t the ideal move, it didn’t work out, and he hasn’t contributed much when he’s played.

“If we can send him back and get someone else, we should definitely do so.

“It would be the greatest thing for him and his career; he isn’t starting for us, and he gets booed by supporters when he comes on because he doesn’t give much.

“He could need to move to a lower-level Championship team or mid-table fodder where there isn’t as much expectation, like Blackburn or somewhere.

“That would be the best move for me, go to someone mid-table and get your career back on track.”

Lewis Koumas, Birmingham City’s exit looks probable in January after a fresh Liverpool update.

Koumas had a successful loan spell at Stoke City last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 49 appearances, and after proving himself in the Championship, he appeared to be a promising addition for Birmingham.

Given that the Potters battled relegation for much of last season, the Blues would have hoped that Koumas could thrive in a team with promotion aspirations, but that has not been the case, and with his last start coming in October, it does not appear that he is in Davies’ plans.

A managerial change at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park is possible in the coming weeks as pressure builds on Davies, which could open the door for Koumas, but with Liverpool said to be reviewing his situation, a fresh start away from Birmingham may be best for the Welsh international.
