Reason Why Frank Lampard will not be promoted to the Premier League despite the “bombshell” offer from Turkish giants.

During the January transfer window, Coventry City will have to fight to keep one of their best players.

Under Frank Lampard, the Sky Blues have had an incredible start to the season and are leading the Championship, eight points ahead of Middlesbrough in second place and thirteen ahead of Ipswich and Hull City in third and fourth place as they attempt to end their protracted absence from the Premier League.

Haji Wright has been instrumental in Coventry’s recent success under Lampard, scoring eight goals and assisting once.

And Wright’s Championship form has piqued the interest of Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas.

The Black Eagles have had a disappointing league season and are currently in sixth position, 13 points behind rivals Galatasaray after 17 games.

Tammy Abraham, a former Chelsea player, is now Besiktas’ leading scorer with seven league goals, but the Turkish club is looking to supplement the England international with the signing of the USA front.

Wright has previously played in the Super Lig, where he succeeded with Antalyaspor, scoring 29 league goals in 60 games over two seasons.

Coventry spent a club-record €9 million to sign Wright as a successor for Viktor Gyokeres in 2023, and European football pundit Andy Brassell told talkSPORT there is no need for the Sky Blues to sell the 27-year-old in the New Year.

“Unless they’re getting an amazing replacement that absolutely blows all of our minds, who is completely from left field and whom we’re not expecting, then why would they sell Haji Wright now?”

Brassell went on to declare that he does not believe Wright should leave the club in the winter, adding: “From Haji Wright’s perspective, you’re on the verge of moving to the Premier League.

“Obviously, moving to Besiktas would result in a significant wage increase for him. However, it is difficult to determine what is truly appealing.

“They do not have European football for the rest of the season. The team is in a volatile situation because fans are dissatisfied with how things have gone this season.

“The fact that they haven’t been able to compete with Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, despite investing heavily on the team last summer.

“So, I believe Haji Wright would be wise to hold fire. “It may be difficult to persuade Coventry to sell him, so he may not have the option to decide.”

Coventry suffered a minor slide in recent weeks, winning only one of their previous four games prior of their Boxing Day match against Swansea City.

The Sky Blues won 1-0 in the CBS Arena, thanks to Ephron Mason-Clark’s own goal just before halftime.

Middlesbrough, Ipswich, Hull City, and Preston all failed to win on Boxing Day, providing a significant help to Coventry’s ambition to return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
