Josh Murphy responds to Portsmouth’s major contract news.

Josh Murphy, a Portsmouth winger, has messaged Nicolas Schmid after the goalkeeper agreed to a new contract.

Leicester City tried to sign Murphy in the summer, but the winger ultimately stayed at Fratton Park.

And, most crucially, Pompey are only two points above the relegation zone after a poor first half of the season.

In the summer, Portsmouth signed Yang Min-hyuk on loan from Tottenham, among other significant additions to their squad.

Nonetheless, Portsmouth has been predicted to be demoted from the Championship this season and will face a difficult battle to avoid relegation.

Josh Murphy sent a message to Nicolas Schmid.

The last ten days have seen a resurgence in John Mousinho’s team.

Portsmouth defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Fratton Park, with goals from Callum Lang and Ibane Bowat helping the home side come from behind for their first win in four matches.

On Saturday, Pompey grabbed a promising point away at Derby County, with Lang scoring once again.

In many respects, the Portsmouth goalkeeper was the star of the show.

Schmid made six stops to prevent a Derby victory, including a diving stop in the dying moments to deny what appeared to be a certain goal.

Last week, Portsmouth revealed that the Austrian had signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract that would keep him at Fratton Park until 2029.

What John Mousinho says about ‘outstanding’ Schmid said it all.

Last year, Portsmouth signed Schmid from Austrian side Blau Weiss Linz for a reported £350,000 fee.

Prior to that move, the 28-year-old had spent his whole career in Austria and was seen as a contender for the top slot rather than a clear first choice.

But Schmid has impressed tremendously since his arrival, and his manager was quick to compliment him following the Derby tie.

‘I am naturally biased towards Nico,’ Mousinho told the Portsmouth News. “There are some outstanding keepers in the league, and he is certainly up there.

“I don’t want the headline to be we’ve got the best goalkeeper in the league, but I’ve always got a bias towards our players and I think he’s excellent.”

Portsmouth will next face QPR at Fratton Park, looking to build on their recent success.
