Derby County supporters had plenty of reasons to enjoy their trip to Hillsborough on Monday night, and they also had a message for Wednesday fans.
The result moved their club up to 12th position in the Championship, while Wednesday remained at the bottom of the standings, 29 points behind due to point deductions for financial mismanagement and subsequent administration.
But Sheffield Wednesday fans hoping for some solidarity from fans of the previous EFL club to find themselves in this situation were disappointed, because Derby fans had a message for those who had indulged in some off-color singing at Pride Park when Derby were in dire straits several years ago.
Derby fans sang “pro-Chansiri chants” during their team’s triumph at Hillsborough.

On Monday evening, Sheffield Star reporter Alex Miller posted on the social media platform X, “Less than a minute gone and Derby fans sing “We’re all having a party when Sheffield Wednesday dies,” followed by pro-Chansiri chants.”
He continued: “Possibly a response to footage of a few Owls fans singing the same outside Pride Park during the Rams’ strife a few years ago.”
This, of course, sparked heated disagreement in the answers. Some Sheffield Wednesday fans responded by pointing out that this song may have occurred after the event, as it is only a matter of time before new ownership at Hillsborough is verified and Dejphon Chansiri becomes a part of their history:
Derby fans responded by pointing out that this might not have happened if the incident at Pride Park had occurred several years earlier:
While others claimed that it involved more than “a few Owls fans” involved in this previous incident:
While some Derby fans said that they don’t appreciate this type of singing from any team, even their own:
Fans celebrating the imminent destruction of their respective clubs is best recorded as a goalless tie.

It is unclear which specific match is being referenced as a result of Alex Miller’s tweet and the responses to it. Derby County was in administration from September 2021 to July 2022, and because they were in the Championship at the time and Sheffield Wednesday were in League One, the two teams did not play that season.
Derby survived relegation on the final day of the 2020-21 season with a dramatic 3-3 tie against Wednesday, which also relegated their opponents, however fans were not permitted inside the venues due to pandemic restrictions. Derby fans gathered outside Pride Park regardless of the day.
By the time the two clubs played again in December 2022, Derby had been relegated to League One at the end of the previous season, and the Rams were under new ownership and secure. One tweet from a Derby County fan implies that it was this match.
Of course, when it comes to points-scoring between rival fans, niceties are typically overlooked, and some fans of all clubs will be tempted to cheer another club’s demise. This appears to have been the situation in December 2022 at Pride Park and December 2025 in Hillsborough.
However, given that the Sheffield Wednesday songs came after Derby County had been saved, and the Derby County songs came at a time when it was widely assumed that Sheffield Wednesday would be saved, the only reasonable conclusion to draw from this head-to-head would be that this particular match-up ended in a goalless draw.
