Clinton Morrison, a Sky Sports pundit, has issued a warning to Coventry City after Ipswich Town defeated Frank Lampard’s side ahead to their 1-1 draw against Preston North End.
Frank Lampard and his team had won 11 of their previous 12 games prior to their 3-0 defeat at Portman Road, with 10-man Preston North End extending their losing streak to two and making it five wins in eight games for his side.
However, they are still 10 points ahead of third-place Millwall in the Championship, having scored 51 goals in 20 games. Sky Blues fans will be anxious to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, but Cov still has plenty of breathing room in their pursuit of automatic promotion.
This is Coventry’s sixth season in the Championship, following their promotion from League One in 2019/20. However, this is their first campaign with a manager other than Mark Robins. After finishing fifth, ninth, and fifth in the previous three seasons, they hope to improve this year.
However, in this harsh league, the current two-game winless streak could quickly become more. Clinton Morrison played two seasons with Coventry in the Championship from 2008 to 2010, and the Sky Sports commentator has commented on their present position.
Sky Sports analyst Clinton Morrison issued a warning to Ipswich Town regarding Frank Lampard.

Morrison spoke with Sky Sports News’ Soccer Special about his thoughts on Coventry after the club dropped points in their last two games. He replied, “Nah, nothing to worry about. Frank has said it many times: this is the championship.
“You expect Ipswich to be there or close. Ipswich is not an easy town to visit. Because Ipswich hasn’t had the best start, but they’ve spent a lot of money, have a fantastic manager in McKenna, and things are starting to click at the moment.
“That should be a fortification on Portman Road. I was speaking with Jobi [McAnuff] before we went on television. Coventry was without two of its greatest players: [Tatsuhiro] Sakamoto and [Victor] Torp.
“Those two are incredibly important. In particular, Sakamoto. I’ve long said that Coventry lacks pace at the back. However, this can happen in the Championship.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Ipswich are there or thereabouts by the end of the season, finishing in one of the top two positions. I predicted that they would be present at the start of the season.
“And they should be there, Jules, given the money they’ve spent and the players they’ve assembled. Every squad will experience a minor glitch in the Championship.
“Coventry have a difficult run of games right now. They’re away at Preston and will face Bristol City on the weekend.
“Sakamoto is returning, which I think is a huge plus. I think he’s important. But I have nothing to worry about with Coventry right now. But this is the Championship, and it is an unpredictable league. “That’s why we like it.”
Tim Sherwood’s recommendations for Coventry City manager Frank Lampard

Lampard acknowledged Coventry City’s injury concerns ahead of the weekend, and Tim Sherwood advised the 47-year-old on the importance of getting back to winning ways. He continued, “It’s critical to get back on the horse as soon as possible.”
“In this league, you can put together a run and be quite dominant. And you feel as if you’ll never lose. If you start losing a few, the same thing happens in reverse.
“So I think it’s very crucial for Frank. He will understand how vital it is to get back on that horse.”
With Bristol City (9th), Southampton (8th), and Ipswich Town (5th) still to play before 2026, Coventry will put their nerve, character, and mettle to the test – despite their current points lead over the pursuing group.
