Ex-Hull City and Aston Villa star blasts ‘disgrace’ Jamie Carragher’s daring Liverpool player Mo Salah’s comments

Former Hull City player Ahmed Elmohamady has slammed Jamie Carragher for his latest tirade against Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool star made headlines on Saturday night despite not playing in the Reds’ thrilling 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Egyptian cast doubt on his future at Liverpool, alleging he has been blamed for the club’s poor record this season, having spent the last three games on the bench.

Prior to Manchester United’s 4-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sky Sports analyst and former defender criticised the 33-year-old on their main Monday Night Football broadcast.

Carragher called Salah a disgrace in an eight-minute rant at the striker, who has 250 goals in 420 appearances for the club since signing from AS Roma in 2017.

Elmohamady has taken to social media to defend his old Egypt national team teammate, condemning Carragher’s criticism on the Liverpool legend.

Carragher criticized the forward’s lack of national success, but the former Hull defender has stated that Salah is well-liked in his native country for the role he has played for the team over the years, notably ending their 28-year wait for a return to the World Cup.

Elmohamady wrote, “Right Jamie, you’re a disgrace,” on his own X account.

“Salah fully reinvented his tale with dedication, humility, and world-class performances.

“He didn’t “fail” at Chelsea; he was never given the opportunity.

“He moved to Italy to rebuild himself before coming to Liverpool and becoming a Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest ever player, and one of the most consistent forwards of his period.

“Salah has carried Egypt for many years.

“And having Egypt qualifying for the [World Cup] twice after so long, Salah earned everything.

“No wonder you were blanked by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“No wonder [Lionel] Messi singled you out.

“No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in [the] top 1000 defenders in PL.”

Elmohamady played the 2012-13 season on loan to Hull from Sunderland before moving to Yorkshire permanently that summer.

The full-back represented the Tigers from 2013 to 2017 before joining Aston Villa, which proved to be the final step in his career.

The 38-year-old retired in 2021, after Aston Villa finished 11th in the Premier League table.

Hull are now eighth in the Championship under Sergej Jakirovic, with their sights set on making the play-offs before the conclusion of the season.

Ahmed Elmohamady reveals Jamie Carragher’s Egypt blind spot.

Carragher has once again chosen to criticize Salah’s performances for Egypt.

Elmohamady’s statements emphasize that his national team record is exceedingly strong, and his absence of an AFCON title (which he could yet win next year) will not be used against him by his fellow countrymen.

Egypt had also failed to qualify for the World Cup since 1990, previous to Salah’s vital involvement in their 2018 and 2022 victories.

Of course, the Liverpool equation will dominate this story, but Elmohamady has reminded us that Salah is more than just his time at Anfield.
