Big Sheffield Wednesday fear emerges: Manchester United pondering potential Harry Amass action.

Sheffield Wednesday are concerned about the near future of Manchester United loanee Harry Amass.

According to Simon Stone of BBC Sport on Tuesday, there is “huge interest” in the Old Trafford starlet, which could see him leave Hillsborough at the turn of the year, while the Owls, who are currently cash-strapped, are hoping to do everything they can to keep the full-back in Sheffield.

Wednesday’s season has so far been one of very few bright spots, both on and off the pitch, with takeover news and updates dominating S6 headlines.

Henrik Pedersen was faced with the seemingly impossible task of retaining the club’s Championship status for a fourth consecutive season after taking over from Danny Rohl in August on short notice, with the South Yorkshire side severely limited in terms of transfer activity during Dejphon Chansiri’s extremely controversial and chaotic 10-year tenure as chairman.

Indeed, Amass was one of only two loan additions to the Danes’ severely thin squad as a result of many transfer and registration-related embargoes and limitations, along with a temporary move for American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath from Cardiff City.

Wednesday are currently 27 points from safety with 28 Championship fixtures remaining, having been hit with an additional six-point deduction on December 1st after being sanctioned with an automatic 12-point deficit on October 24th for entering administration, with Begbies Traynor hoping to reach an agreement with their preferred bidder in the coming days.

However, Amass’ future has become a huge topic of discussion at Hillsborough in terms of off-pitch problems, with many questioning what the 18-year-old has in store for him given his current loan club’s condition.

Fresh Sheffield Wednesday anxiety grows regarding the future of Manchester United loan ace. Harry Amass

It was well documented at the time of Amass’ first loan stint away from Old Trafford that the Red Devils would pay for every aspect of the agreement as a result of Wednesday’s dire financial situation throughout the summer and beyond, though the two clubs would only agree on a deal until the upcoming January window.

After making five Premier League appearances, three of which were starts, and two more in United’s run to the UEFA Europa League Final under Ruben Amorim last season, a move to a club that is still in difficult circumstances was only seen as beneficial to the Londoner’s overall development in the early stages of his professional career.

That has certainly shown to be the case, with Pedersen playing the England youth international as a left-wing-back, where he has shown good maturity and the ability to move up and down the pitch in both offensive and defensive situations.

So far this season, Amass has appeared in 14 league games for the Owls, scoring his first senior goal with a well-taken finish in their 3-1 defeat at Southampton on November 8th, and assisting Charlie McNeil in the dramatic 3-2 home defeat to Preston North End on November 29th.

As previously stated, with his loan deal expiring in less than a month’s time, there has been a lot of speculation about what the future holds for the Red Devils star, but Pedersen has revealed that the Premier League club is “very happy” with his development and that he hopes to keep Amass for the rest of the season.

Such accomplishments were recounted in Stone’s latest report, but there will be anxiety over whether Amass can be retained by the Owls, with United considering numerous options for their young talents ahead of the second half of the season.

Losing Harry Amass would be a massive loss for Sheffield Wednesday.

Although it would be a miracle if Wednesday did not play League One football next season, losing Amass in the forthcoming transfer window would be a significant blow to Pedersen.

As previously said, the 47-year-old clearly lacks resources, despite recent free agent additions Liam Cooper and Nathan Redmond.

Granted, Max Lowe might potentially replace Amass’ vacuum if he returned to Old Trafford initially. Aside from the 28-year-old, Pedersen has no natural cover, since Gui Siqueira is currently recovering from a catastrophic injury experienced early in the season.
