The 24 most valuable EFL Championship players, one from each club

The January transfer window is rapidly approaching, and all 24 Championship clubs will be arranging their business ahead of the new year.

It might be a critical month for clubs at both ends of the table, as managers attempt to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.

The January window has the potential to see some substantial player sales involving Championship teams.

Here, we look at the most valued player at each team in the league, sorted from lowest to highest (NOTE: all figures used from Transfermarkt – the figures given have been converted from euros to GBP).

24Max Lowe – Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are almost certainly relegated to League One this season, but earning funds through player sales could still be beneficial financially.

Max Lowe is the most valuable member of the first-team squad, earning £1.9 million.

23Brian De Keersmaecker – Oxford United

To escape relegation, Oxford United will need to improve under Gary Rowett in January.

Summer signings Brian De Keersmaecker has been an important member of the team since joining in the summer, and his £2.6 million valuation reflects this.

22Callum Lang – Portsmouth

Portsmouth are in their second season back in the Championship, and John Mousinho will most certainly look to the January transfer window to keep them there.

Callum Lang’s return from injury in late November could be critical, as he has the highest valuation of any permanent member of the Fratton Park squad at £2.6 million.

21Todd Cantwell – Blackburn

Todd Cantwell is the most valuable member of Valerien Ismael’s side, with the playmaker worth £3 million.

20Charlie Kelman – Charlton

Charlie Kelman signed for Charlton Athletic in the summer after their promotion and a successful loan spell at Leyton Orient.

The forward has also been valued at £3 million, placing Charlton 20th in the division.

19Jordan Storey – Preston

Preston have had a terrific start to the season under Paul Heckingbottom, and Jordan Storey has played a major role in that success.

The 28-year-old has the highest worth of any permanent member of the squad, at £3.3 million.

18Ryan Giles – Hull City

Ryan Giles has returned to form under Sergej Jakirovic this season, and his £3.9 million valuation reflects this.

17Ilias Chair – QPR

Ilias Chair has been essential for QPR in recent years, establishing himself as a fan favourite with his outstanding performances.

This is why he is the Hoops’ most valuable first-team member, at £5.2 million.

16Alfie Doughty – Millwall

Alfie Doughty has struggled with injuries since joining Millwall from Luton Town in the summer, so supporters have yet to see his full potential.

However, his efforts for the Hatters have earned him a £5.7 million valuation, the highest of any player in Alex Neil’s squad.

15Patrick Agyemang – Derby County

Patrick Agyemang moved to Derby County from MLS in the summer and has adapted well to life in English football thus far.

The forward is worth more than any other member of the Rams’ first team, at £6.1 million.

14Viktor Johansson – Stoke City

Viktor Johansson has shown to be one of the best shot-stoppers in the division during his time at Rotherham United and Stoke City, so supporters will not be surprised that he is the club’s highest valued player at £7 million.

13Caleb Wiley – Watford

Caleb Wiley is yet to make a significant impact at Watford, but at the age of 20, he is already demonstrating his ability to play at Championship level, earning him a £7 million valuation.

12Scott Twine – Bristol City

Scott Twine has been a vital role for Bristol City under Gerhard Struber, and his strong performances for the Robins have earned him a £7 million valuation.

11Ben Cabango – Swansea City

Ben Cabango has played an important role for Swansea City since breaking into the first squad through the academy system.

The defender is currently their most valuable player, at £7.9 million.

10Callum Doyle – Wrexham

Callum Doyle joined Wrexham in the summer in a huge money move following their League One promotion, and the 22-year-old is now the club’s most valuable player, at £8.7 million.

9Isaac Price – West Brom

With a price of £8.7 million, Isaac Price ranks West Brom in the top ten, with the 22-year-old proving an exciting young prospect in his debut season with the Baggies.

8Jack Rudoni – Coventry City

Jack Rudoni has emerged as a significant member of Frank Lampard’s Coventry City team in the previous year, and his £13.1 million valuation reflects this as the Sky Blues compete for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

7Jay Stansfield – Birmingham City

Jay Stansfield’s big money move to Birmingham City shattered the record cost paid for a League One player at £15 million, and he is now worth £13.1 million as the Blues compete for a spot in the Premier League.

6Gustavo Hamer – Sheffield United

Gustavo Hamer’s Sheffield United contract expires next year, yet he remains the club’s most valuable player despite their terrible start to the Championship season.

The playmaker is valued at £14 million, with Chris Wilder’s side looking to climb the league and regain promotion contention.

5Abdul Fatawu – Leicester City

Abdul Fatawu received a lot of praise for his performances despite Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship last season.

This has resulted in a worth of £15.8 million.

4Hayden Hackney – Middlesbrough

Hayden Hackney almost left Middlesbrough last summer, but he is now an integral part of the club’s battle for promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder is valued at £17.5 million, more than any other Boro player.

3Josh Sargent – Norwich City

Josh Sargent’s future has been the subject of much debate in recent weeks, but Norwich City has kept the forward.

He is presently valued at £17.5 million, and a sum in that range will almost certainly be required for the Canaries to consider a deal at this stage.

2Taylor Harwood-Bellis – Southampton

Taylor Harwood-Bellis is the most valuable member of Southampton’s team, at £19.3 million.

The defender might be critical to the team’s long-term turnaround and return to contention for a play-off spot in 2026.

1Leif Davis – Ipswich Town

Leif Davis has been a standout performer for Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna, earning him the highest valuation in the Championship.

The defender is valued at £19.3 million as the Tractor Boys seek a return to the Premier League.
