December 1 (Reuters) – Sheffield Wednesday, one of England’s oldest clubs, has been punished six points for violating the English Football League’s payment guidelines.
In October, the second-tier Championship team was deducted 12 points after entering for administration due to escalating financial problems. Wednesday now have -10 points and are at the bottom of the standings, 23 points behind 23rd-placed Norwich City.

“Sheffield Wednesday FC will be deducted six points with immediate effect for multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to payment obligations,” the EFL said in a statement, adding that it will not seek any additional point punishments.
Dejphon Chansiri, the club’s former owner, has also been barred from owning or directing any EFL club for the next three years.
In June, the EFL charged Wednesday with repeated violations of regulations for failing to pay players’ wages on schedule.
The 158-year-old club is up for sale.
