Celtic’s hunt for a new manager is finally coming to an end, following a time of uncertainty and changing circumstances.
Martin O’Neill has announced that Wednesday’s match against Dundee will be his last in charge, following assurances from the club’s administration. His departure opens the door for Wilfried Nancy to take over, with the expectation that he will be in charge for Sunday’s game against Hearts.

Before the management changeover, the focus will be on O’Neill’s final game at Celtic Park. His short tenure has been impressive, with the club winning six out of seven games and regaining momentum.
Arne Engels responded candidly to a question about the continuing managerial dilemma during his pre-match press conference. The midfielder, who will be hoping to sustain his excellent form against Dundee, was asked if the squad had heard any details on Nancy’s arrival.
Engels responded: “No, not yet. We haven’t heard anything. That’s why I mentioned that I’m not sure if this would be Martin’s last game.
We know a new manager is on the way, but I am not sure who it will be.
Under O’Neill, some players have recaptured their best form, including Engels. Engels, Reo Hatate, and Callum McGregor, the midfield trio that was so efficient in Europe last season under Brendan Rodgers, have been reunited to great effect.
The player admits to discussing potential managing possibilities amid upcoming changes, similar to the transfer window. Not all, but a few. And all discussions concerning managers have been constructive.”
Engels is far from the only player to have profited from O’Neill’s coaching.
Auston Trusty, who was benched for Dane Murray in Rodgers’ final match against Hearts, has started every game since O’Neill’s arrival and performed well enough to receive a call-up to the US national team.
Johnny Kenny has also prospered, scoring four goals in five games, and Callum Osmand rewarded O’Neill’s faith by scoring his first senior goal off the bench against Rangers.
In recent weeks, winger Yang Hyun-Jun has also returned to prominence, contributing significantly after nearly leaving the club earlier in the summer.
Engels believes the squad is well-positioned for the next shift.
“We’re in a terrific spot today, and I believe the time is appropriate to bring in a new management. You’ve got Hearts this weekend, followed by several key games.
