Sheffield Wednesday have failed to reach an agreement with Manchester United on Harry Amass’s extended loan.
The full-back moved to Hillsborough on a temporary basis late in the summer window, as financial constraints prevented the Owls from being active in the market.
The Yorkshire club was able to sign Ethan Horvat on loan from Cardiff City, and they had no additional business before the window closed.
According to reports, the Premier League club would cover the full cost of the loan, with the teenager hoping to gain senior experience by playing regularly away from Old Trafford.
Amass has received appreciation from numerous fans, as the defender has appeared in 13 of their 17 Championship games this season, scoring once.
Harry Amass’s Sheffield Wednesday loan update

It was first reported earlier this year that Amass is anticipated to stay at Hillsborough after the January market.
However, Alex Miller claims that no agreement has yet been made between the two clubs to prolong his current loan, which expires in the new year.
He has stated that the ongoing takeover talks at Sheffield Wednesday are confusing matters, but that the most likely outcome is that he would remain with the Championship club.
“There were reports that [it] had already been agreed upon, but that is not my understanding,” Miller stated on the United! United! United! YouTube channel.
“I believe that all sides of the transaction, as well as the player himself, recognize that things are going very well. You understand, in terms of his development.
“But there is still some work to be done in terms of renewing that loan and extending the term; we discussed the terms [for] Harry and what United is contributing to that loan on the show previously.”
“But there is currently a moment of uncertainty since Sheffield Wednesday does not know who will buy the club.
“And they don’t know what will be accessible or what way the owners want things to go.
“So, I think until that is clearer, not necessarily ’til it’s done and dusted, but until that’s a little clearer, it’s difficult to sort that loan out.”
Sheffield Wednesday has had a rough 2025, as the club is now in administration due to serious financial concerns.
As a result, the Owls were immediately deducted 12 points, dropping them to the bottom of the Championship standings.
Henrik Pedersen’s squad has minus four points, with 20 points separating them from safety after only 17 games.
Sheffield Wednesday’s next match is at home against Preston North End on November 29 at 3 p.m.

Keeping Harry Amass will be welcomed by supporters.
While Sheffield Wednesday are almost guaranteed to be relegated this season regardless of their squad composition, retaining Amass beyond January will be a significant boost.
At the end of the day, he helps the team and is an exciting young prospect to follow week in and week out.
The defender is also acquiring crucial senior experience by constantly playing in the Championship, which is something Manchester United will want.
So retaining the 18-year-old at Hillsborough is a sensible decision for all parties.
