A recent update reveals that Sheffield United’s ownership position is about to change.

Sheffield United’s owners are open to selling a significant chunk of the club to the right investor.

The Blades have had a rough 2025/26 campaign both on and off the pitch, spending the majority of their time fighting within the relegation zone rather than advancing to the promotion-paying positions.

Ruben Selles was fired after a disastrous start to the season, which prompted the return of Chris Wilder, but fortunes did not improve significantly under the United great.

However, recent weeks have seen an improvement in the Steel City side’s performances, culminating in a 3-0 derby day win over rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

But, just when things appeared to be improving on the pitch, United’s owners managed to resurrect a slew of scandal.

Sheffield United’s owners are reportedly considering selling a part in the club.

Journalist Alan Nixon recently disclosed on his Patreon channel that Sheffield United’s owners, COH Sports, want to examine the club’s financial situation in early 2026 and may seek a sale.

This was followed by the stunning news that COH Sports allegedly expressed an interest in taking over the Blades’ arch-rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, after they went bankrupt, which went down like a lead balloon among fans.

Despite publishing a club statement expressing their commitment to achieving success with Sheffield United, additional rumors have arisen indicating that its owners are willing to give some control of the team.

According to the Daily Mail, the US-based business is willing to sell up to a 20% ownership in the Blades to experienced investors.

This talk about their future control of United apparently occurred after Wednesday’s ongoing sale prompted calls to the red side of Sheffield.

As a result, COH Sports has employed sports consultants Penwick to assess club interest.

Sheffield United fans may have mixed feelings about the prospective investment.

Since COH Sports acquired Sheffield United in December 2024, fans haven’t had much to celebrate.

They saw their club fall behind Burnley and Leeds United in the title battle, lose to Sunderland in the play-off final, and begin the 2025/26 season poorly.

Naturally, following such a string of bad luck, some pressure begins to build on the new owners. Some United fans will undoubtedly welcome a partial sale of the club, with calls for someone with a football background to take over.

Others, however, may be concerned that their owners have already sold an interest in the team, which may be interpreted as a lack of faith. If COH Sports is already eager to cash in on 20% of the Blades, it may not be long before they seek a complete departure.

Only time will tell, but the future of Sheffield United’s ownership structure is anything but certain.
