Adi Viveash responds to Coventry City gesture and reveals Middlesbrough apology

Coventry City match response from CoventryLive, as we look at what former Sky Blues assistant Adi Viveash said after Tuesday night’s defeat.

Adi Viveash paid thanks to Coventry City fans after his brief reign at Middlesbrough ended in a 4-2 defeat at the Riverside.

Viveash stated that he felt he had let the club down following the loss to the Sky Blues. The Sky Blue Army sang his name aloud as he approached the Coventry players, the majority of whom he had coached, and shook their hands after the final whistle.

As a consequence, Frank Lampard’s side now leads Boro by ten points at the top of the Championship.

Viveash, who will return to his assistant coaching post under Kim Hellberg, who was watching from the stands, stated, “I’m really grateful for the trust that was placed in me. I feel like I let them down tonight, which is why I went around to the supporters and raised my hands. I didn’t want things to end like way.

“Yes, it’s a team I know well, with talented players and followers. They sang my name at the end, which meant a lot; there is mutual respect for a long period of hard work together.

“But I went around to our fans to really apologize for tonight. I didn’t expect it to be like that, and I’m quite upset. I had a sense of its presence. So that will be something for me to think about and process, but it has been a very interesting ten days.

“I attempted to steady it, carry it, and form a bond with the personnel, who were at a low point. I tried to build it back up and gave the players everything I had. I stood there tonight; it’s been a rollercoaster of a ride these past 10 days.

“I certainly felt like sitting back down at 2-0, but that’s when you have to step up, and I believe the owner, Neil, Kieran, the staff, the players, and the fans have seen someone who has stepped up. I appreciate that they put me in control. “I hope my family and loved ones are proud.”

While few would blame Viveash for Tuesday’s defeat, he was equally upset with a performance that he viewed as uncharacteristic of Boro. They conceded four goals in the contest and suffered their first league loss at the Riverside.

Tommy Conway squandered a golden opportunity to put his side ahead 15 minutes from time after coming back from 2-0 down. It proved costly as Liam Kitching and Ellis Simms each scored their second goals of the game to give the Sky Blues a significant three-point lead in the Championship.
