Nathan Jones is chanted by Southampton supporters. During the Charlton 5-1 Rout
The Saints ran wild against Nathan Jones’ Charlton team, and Southampton fans weren’t holding back as they chanted, “You’re getting sacked in the morning.” With goals from Ryan Manning, Adam Armstrong, Caspar Jander, and Finn Azaz in only eight minutes of the first half, Southampton jumped out to a four-goal lead in the Valley under interim manager Tonda Eckert in just 22 minutes. Charlton was in a mess as Azaz added a fifth goal just before halfway.

What Happened to Nathan Jones at Southampton?
Jones was fired after only four months in charge at St Mary’s, leaving the team at the bottom of the Premier League. During his 95-day tenure, he lost nine out of fifteen games, contributing to Southampton’s ultimate relegation. Since then, he has rebuilt his career with Charlton, leading the club to promotion to the Championship in 2024/25.

Charlton came into the game in ninth place, hoping to move into the play-off spots, but the encounter swiftly proved devastating for Jones as his former club dominated. When asked about the supporters’ shouts after the game, Jones conceded he had little control over the situation, saying, “What else can you do?” Charlton’s Lloyd Jones scored late in the first half, but it did little to turn around a dreadful first 45 minutes.
Saints’ Recent Management Changes
The Saints also parted ways with manager Will Still in November, barely five months into his three-year contract, after a terrible start that saw them finish 21st in the Championship. Tonda Eckert, who previously managed the Under-21s, took over as interim manager. Southampton has won three games in a row under Eckert, moving up to 14th place and giving a much-needed spark after a rocky start.
