New twist to Kim Hellberg’s backroom team emerges as Middlesbrough make fresh contact

Kim Hellberg is said to have selected Malmo FF caretaker manager Anes Mravac as someone he would like to have on his Middlesbrough coaching staff, with Boro being believed to have made contact.

Boro’s search for a new head coach following Rob Edwards’ stunning departure to Wolves appears to be nearing to a conclusion.

Middlesbrough are poised to announce the selection of Hammarby manager Kim Hellberg as Edwards’ successor soon, with the 37-year-old also bringing David Selini, his Hammarby assistant, with him to Teesside.

at current interim manager Adi Viveash also expected to stay at Boro as part of Hellberg’s new-look coaching team, the soon-to-be Middlesbrough manager has apparently set his sights on importing another figure from his country of Sweden…

Kim Hellberg wants Malmo FF temporary head coach Anes Mravac to join him at Middlesbrough after Boro made contact.

According to a new rumor from Swedish news agency Expressen, current Malmo FF interim coach Anes Mravac is a strong interest for Middlesbrough, particularly Hellberg.

It is alleged that Hellberg has made it plain that he wants the 36-year-old to be a part of his Boro backroom team, with initial talks between Malmo and Middlesbrough apparently believed to have begun.

For the time being, it’s unclear how far those talks have progressed, or whether Mravac is interested in moving to the North East. However, all three of Mravac, Selini, and Hellberg worked together at Swedish club IFK Varnamo, so there’s a strong connection.

Mravac was appointed Malmo’s deputy manager in January of this year, but when manager Henrik Rydstrom left in September, he was promoted to caretaker boss.

He has won three, drawn two, and lost four of his nine games in command, and his squad is currently ready to travel to England on Thursday night for a Europa League match against Nottingham Forest.

Anes Mravac might be another very exciting addition to Middlesbrough’s coaching staff.

With Hellberg only 37, Selini 31 and Mravac 36 years old, if the three form the core of Middlesbrough’s new coaching staff, it will undoubtedly be an exciting group for Boro fans.

Despite their youth, this possible Teesside trio is clearly extremely competent and well-regarded, with years of coaching experience in professional, senior football.

Selini began his coaching career in 2021 as an assistant coach with Swedish club IF Sylvia, as did Mravac in the same year; however, he had previously coached in young team football.

Hellberg, on the other hand, began his coaching career in the early 2010s, despite his young age.

As a result, Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson appears to be putting his trust in one of the most youthful coaching teams he has ever entrusted to lead his football club, and while this will undoubtedly cause some concern, it will be a good fear for Boro fans, as this could mark the beginning of a hugely exciting and successful era on Teesside.
