After hiring Jack Wilshere, Luton Town is already starting to make significant progress. However, the Hatters shouldn’t sit back and wait for their January transfer market to open; instead, they could try to get Charlie Webster, a midfielder for Burton Albion.

Due to their back-to-back relegations from the Premier League, the Hatters are still receiving parachute payments, and they still have the remains of a squad that was very expensive.

There is a claim that Matt Bloomfield had too many alternatives and that he struggled to maintain unity before being fired in early October. Luton’s team was so strong that they were the clear preseason favorites for the League One championship.

After losing to Mansfield Town at Kenilworth Road in his first game as manager, Jack Wilshere was given his first permanent position. Since then, they have won four straight games in all competitions, including a recent 3-0 thumping of league leaders Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

Despite now lying just outside the top half of the league, Luton will have nursed their wounds and felt sorry for themselves, but they now need to get back to work on reestablishing themselves as legitimate title contenders.

Charlie Webster is one player they should be putting up for a January move, and they should have the financial means to bully a large portion of the division this season.

Charlie Webster, a former Chelsea player and current Burton Albion player, should be signed by Luton Town as soon as possible.

After graduating from Chelsea’s renowned academy, Webster played for Heerenveen on loan in the Dutch Eredivisie for the 2023–2024 season, scoring one goal in 13 games overall.

Therefore, it seemed like a huge coup for Burton Albion to first pick him up in the summer of last year, and it has turned out to be so.

With the help of then-manager Mark Robinson, who had collaborated with Webster at Chelsea, and after Nordic Football Group acquired the team, the Brewers acquired a player in Webster who is quickly becoming one of the finest in League One.

Although he can play a variety of positions, Webster is best viewed as a box-to-box yet goal-scoring midfielder. He does, on a frequent basis, seem to be a level above where he is currently playing, especially for Burton, who are always fighting for relegation.

He is becoming known as a monster ball presser and is Burton’s best player at winning the ball in the last third, doing so 0.6 times per game. This is particularly noteworthy under Gary Bowyer’s more reactive style of play.

Webster would seem to be ideally suited to play for a more aggressive, front-foot club that aims to overwhelm and dominate the opposition, and Luton would be precisely that.

He is also quickly developing into a formidable creative weapon for a League One team, as Burton leads the division in both goals scored (four) and assists (three).

With the six significant chances he has generated, he has created 20 chances, which is tied for most with Kyran Lofthouse.

Webster’s ascent to prominence and potential progression to the Championship seems inevitable, and a complete season at Burton would further increase those prospects.

Sensing an opening to get in before the competition drastically increases a few months later, Luton must be bold and make sure that doesn’t happen by swooping for the 21-year-old during the January transfer window.

Luton Town might be a good fit for Charlie Webster.

At the beginning of his tenure in Bedfordshire, Jack Wilshere has chosen a versatile formation, with Luton playing a 4-4-1-1 that can be readily switched to a back three with wing-backs when the ball is in play.

In any case, that opens up two or three spots in a highly competitive midfield where Webster may flourish. His ability to play midfield across all disciplines would also make it easier for him to adjust.

The current Luton pressing machine is Jordan Clark, who is sidelined, but Webster is undoubtedly capable of matching the former Accrington Stanley player while also offering a greater technical ceiling.

The midfield of Liam Walsh, George Saville, and Lamine Fanne is solid and well-balanced, but Webster seems to have a higher ceiling than Saville and Walsh. He can also play a similar role to all three as the all-action box-to-box player.

Even if there are still a few things that need to be worked out, Luton will enter January with a very strong group.

Webster would be a great opportunity that should be taken up of before it’s too late, given their money, rather than necessarily the answer to a problem.
