According to Pete O’Rourke, “a host” of Championship clubs are showing interest in West Ham midfielder Mohamadou Kante.
Plans for championship clubs’ winter hiring will be well under way. Many teams had a busy summer transfer window, but as the season begins to take shape, it will become evident that many still need to bolster certain areas.
For second-tier teams, the loan market is frequently a fantastic source of talent. Premier League teams like West Ham are also aware of the advantages of these agreements; last season, George Earthy and Freddie Potts both excelled at Portsmouth and Bristol City, respectively.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke has stated on X that Championship teams are considering French midfielder Mohamadou Kante as a possible target as January approaches.
Despite not being mentioned, a loan is most likely because the 20-year-old joined West Ham in 2024 and has a contract that expires in 2031. Although no clubs are mentioned, it is understandable why Kante is attracting attention given his first-team training and impressive performances for the U21s.
Who is Mohamadou Kante, the Championship target?

Before joining Paris FC in the summer of 2019, the midfielder, who was born in Paris, began his career in the AS Jeunesse Aubervilliers juvenile ranks. There, he would make enough of an impression to get to the senior team, eventually drawing interest from West Ham.

Kante played six first-team games for the Hammers last season before being loaned back to the Ligue 2 outfit for the remainder of the campaign.
This season, Kante, a big player who mostly plays defensive midfield, has found success with the West Ham U21s. With three goals and an assist in eight Premier League 2 games, he has shown promise, sometimes playing a little further forward.
Kante has also got the opportunity to participate in the EFL Trophy against senior Football League teams. Before leading his team against Reading, he began and contributed to a 5-1 victory over MK Dons.
West Ham has EFL prospects already.
West Ham has a successful academy. While some move out on loan and play in the Football League, others are raised in the U18 and U21 teams.
West Ham midfielder targeted by Championship clubs

It will be interesting to watch if Kante follows in the footsteps of a few prospects who made moves in the summer.
Kaelan Casey is a temporary center-back for Swansea City in the Championship. Michael Forbes is with Northampton Town, Lewis Orford is at League One powerhouse Stevenage, and Gideon Kodua was also loaned to Luton Town.
It will be interesting to observe whether a Championship move emerges as Kante attracts attention. O’Rourke’s research indicates that there is a high demand for his services.
