Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of football’s most prominent figures over the past two decades. Now in his forties, it may be time to finally transmit the mantle to the next generation.
The Portuguese star may find the process easier if he transfers responsibility to his own family. Indeed, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., 15 years old, is progressively making his own name in the sport, having recently played for Portugal at the youth level.
After representing his country at the U15 level and scoring two goals in four games, he attracted the spotlight against England last May, but with mixed results. However, he appears to have done well enough to win a promotion to a higher age group, as he now plays for Portugal U16s.
The teenage winger, affectionately known as ‘Cristianinho’ in Portugal, is representing his country at the Football Federation Cup in Turkey. After making his debut in a 2-0 victory against the hosts, he was given a start against Wales U21, and his performance has had people talking.

The teenager repayed his coach’s faith by scoring the opening goal in a 3-0 victory. Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. scored in the 42nd minute, when he was placed through on goal and retained his composure to send the ball home without taking a touch.
His serenity in front of goal was reminiscent of his father, and fans were quick to point that out after witnessing his highlights. Someone wrote:
“A fantastic goal by Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. for Portugal U16! Looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree—future star on the rise!”
Another wrote, “No pressure, just carrying one of the most famous names in football history.” If he keeps working hard, the story will write itself. Interesting detail. Portugal’s U17 World Cup lineup next week will only comprise players from home clubs. While someone else wrote, “Good goal.”
A fourth fan commented: “Lil bro making huge moves.” Another joked, “No DNA test required.” “Tap into merchant.” One additional was added:
“CRISTIANO JR. What a finish!!! Cristiano Ronaldo is creating a monster that no one is prepared for.
A final fan boldly asserted, “He’s definitely gonna do more than his father.”

It’s still early days, but Ronaldo Jr appears to be impressing with the U16s. He only came on late in the tournament opener against Turkey, but the Portuguese media were thrilled with his performance.
According to Portuguese outlets, via Hindustan Times, his appearance on the field was calm, confident, and poised, with his composure particularly impressing the coaching team.
Portugal’s U16 team has now played two of just three games in Turkey as part of the Federation Cup Tournament. Following victories over Turkey and Wales, they will face England on Monday to conclude the competition.
