A former Tottenham Hotspur player, who won the UEFA Europa League last season, has retired at the age of 27 to pursue a career in photography.
Spurs won the Europa League in May, defeating Premier League rivals Manchester United at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.
Brennan Johnson’s goal in the 42nd minute secured a 1-0 victory for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Despite leading Spurs to European glory, Postecoglou was fired due to the club’s poor performance in the Premier League. Thomas Frank has since succeeded the Australian.
Postecoglou wasn’t the only one who left Spurs after their Europa League victory.
Spurs confirmed at the end of May that goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman will leave the club when his contract expired.
Whiteman, 27, received a Europa League winner’s medal since he was one of Spurs’ essential club-trained players.
Whiteman failed to establish himself as a regular with the North London club, appearing only once.
After going on trial with two teams this summer, Whiteman has opted to take a major career move.

He told The Athletic: “There was a weekend when I went home and started thinking about all my alternatives. I had been working on other projects on the side, which were more intriguing to me. To put it simply, I found enjoyment in these other areas.
“It came to the point where I’d rather terminate things on my own terms than go to a club I didn’t want to go to. When I was younger, I always maintained I didn’t want to play in the lower leagues; it was all about the top level. Otherwise, I’d prefer to do anything else.
Since leaving football, Whiteman has pursued a career in photography, and he was recently featured on a Nike project alongside photographer Harley Weir and British rapper Central Cee.
The 27-year-old stated, “I have project ideas for photo stuff and short film ideas.” The idea is to make a few short films before moving on to a feature-length film. However, there are no real rigorous steps. You have the authority to decide.
“I just want to be on set and work with some of the most skilled cinematographers, directors of photography, and producers while meeting new people. “There is just so much to learn.”
