Since moving from Manchester United to Trabzonspor during the summer 2025 transfer window, Andre Onana has already made a significant impact. The Cameroon international dropped in the hierarchy under Ruben Amorim after having a hard time adjusting to life in the Premier League.
As a result, the 2025–2026 season saw an unanticipated transfer to Turkey. He has made six appearances overall for his temporary employers, giving up six goals and recording two clean sheets.
Despite being constantly scrutinized during his two years at Old Trafford, Onana has made a completely different impact on Turkish fans and the media.

In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Trabzonspor sports reporter Hasan Tuncel was eloquent in his admiration for the 29-year-old. He quickly summed up Onana’s first impressions on his new club: “In one word: outstanding.”
Tuncel went into further detail about the goalie’s impressive performance in front of his new fans. He went on to mention a particular instance in which Onana demonstrated leadership:
“The disputed disallowed goal by Trabzonspor caused a great deal of tension on the field. Onana’s leadership was evident during that commotion; he composed his colleagues, applied his knowledge, and made several incredible saves.
“Everyone watching from around the world saw that he is still a top-tier goalie after that, not just the supporters in Turkey. In the subsequent games, he has continued to play at the same level.
In stark contrast to his time in England, the writer even went so far as to call the Man Utd failure “flawless.” “He has been perfect thus far. He’s developed into a leader in the locker room in addition to being a goalie,” Tuncel continued.
In addition to improving his on-field performance, the former Ajax and Inter Milan player has been imparting his knowledge to three of the team’s younger players. Tuncel clarified:
“Onuralp Cevikkan, Ahmet Dogan Yildirim, and Erolcan Colak are three young goalkeepers who he directly coaches, offering them guidance both during and after practice. He has gained a lot of respect in the club as a result of this mentoring.
With Onana in goal, Trabzonspor has won four straight games and is now on a winning streak. Although they are five points behind Galatasaray, the leaders of the Turkish Super Lig, they are well-positioned to contend for Champions League football if their outstanding play holds up.
