Heartbroken Kai Rooney Says ‘Life Can’t Get Worse’ as He Shares Update at Man United

Manchester United child Kai Rooney, the son of Old Trafford legend Wayne, hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps by progressing through the age groups at the Carrington training facility. The 15-year-old was recently distraught, claiming on Instagram that his “life can’t get any worse” after suffering an injury that required him to use crutches.

The teenager is under increasing strain. Not only is he at a club that expects nothing less than the finest on a daily basis, but he is also the eldest son of one of the greatest attackers to ever grace the beautiful game. Kai has done his utmost to avoid comparisons by building a reputation for himself.

Kai has long piqued the interest of many in the United academy ranks, thanks in large part to his goal-scoring skills in the final third. Given that his father entered professional football at Everton at the age of 16, the little child will struggle to duplicate his father’s career, who is currently enjoying a post-playing career as a pundit.

After scoring a fantastic left-footed volley into the top corner for United’s U18s, the child was just promoted to the club’s U19s group, where he will compete with academy prospects four years older than him. His immediate future, however, is shuffling around on crutches rather than marauding up the flank.

On a more-than-promising path through the United development system, Kai may now have to re-establish his best form upon his return from injury – and his message will resonate deeply with every footballer who has suffered a similar setback, particularly in the beginning of their career.

Kai, understandably heartbroken at the idea of having to spend a protracted, enforced period on the sidelines rather than strutting his stuff on the pitch, has resorted to Instagram to insist that “life can’t get any worse” beside a sobbing emoji after suffering an injury. The image depicted his right foot, which is his weaker of the two, in a protective boot.

At the time of writing, it is unclear how long Kai, who has been on United’s roster since 2020 and can play either in the middle or on the wing, will be sidelined, nor has the severity of his injury been revealed. The tone of his post, however, may indicate a rapid recovery.

Although the Old Trafford faithful have asked that Kai be pushed into the first-team picture under Ruben Amorim, the kid will be thrilled to have made significant progress in his development, having been included to the U19s side for a prestigious tournament in Croatia. He also shone this summer in a world-renowned competition in Northern Ireland.

The sparkling forward has recently returned to play for the U18s, scoring in their 5-0 victory over Middlesbrough U18s. In an interview with BBC Sport, Wayne told the Manchester Evening News, “I just let him play. I believe it is quite unreasonable to ask him to go out and accomplish everything. He’s simply playing; he’s a 15-year-old child who enjoys football.

“Of course, he receives different attention than many of his teammates, but I believe he manages it very well. He has excellent instructors at Manchester United, so I take a passive approach. I chat with him, but it’s all about his personality and perspective, and making sure he continues to love it is the most important thing for me.”
