4 Teams Have Already Qualified For 2029 FIFA Club World Cup

Before the 2025 final has even happened, four teams have already earned spots in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. To become the first winners under the competition’s new format, Paris Saint-Germain will play Chelsea on Sunday.

The tournament was once held annually at the end of the calendar year, but it has been overhauled and will now happen every four years, much like other important international competitions like the World Cup and Euros. Four teams have already secured their spots, even though the tournament won’t resume until 2029.

PSG Among Four Teams to Already Qualify for Club World Cup

The Parisians have earned their place in the competition in four years time

Despite PSG is one of four teams that can already reserve their flights if a host is announced for 2029, even though there is still plenty of time before supporters ever consider enjoying another summer of club football. The Ligue 1 powerhouses’ 2025 Champions League triumph over Inter Milan has already guaranteed them a spot in the tournament.

Cruz Azul of Mexico, who won the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup, will also be guaranteed a spot alongside the Parisians. Pyramids of Egypt and Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League have also secured their spots by winning the CAF Champions League and the AFC Champions League Elite, respectively.

Although the location of the 2029 tournament has not yet been announced, a team from the host nation will also be assigned a spot.

How Club World Cup Qualifaction Works for Teams
The competition has 32 teams.

32 teams will compete in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, which will be distributed globally. The Champions League champions from the 2024–2025 and 2027–2028 seasons will receive four of UEFA’s twelve spots, while the top-ranked qualified clubs based on a four-year UEFA rating will receive the remaining eight. Paris Saint-Germain’s success from the previous season guaranteed them a spot.

Four Copa Libertadores winners and two more teams chosen based on continental rankings will be among the six spots awarded to CONMEBOL. Cruz Azul has already qualified, and four Champions Cup winners will represent CONCACAF. Pyramids FC is one of the four clubs that CAF will send, along with the other four CAF Champions League champions. With Al-Ahli guaranteed, Asia’s AFC receives four slots, all for Champions League champions. Based on their four-year performance in the OFC Champions League, Oceania will send one team. The final spot will go to the host country.
