After discussing his future on a FaceTime chat with former Brighton, St. Pauli, and Coventry teammate Leo Østigård, Manchester United and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres has people talking.
The 26-year-old striker, who helped Sporting win the Primeira Liga for the second time in a row last season, has plenty of admirers after recording 54 goals and 13 assists in 2024–25.
Since Manchester United is searching for a prolific center-forward after a dismal season in front of goal, there have been rumors of a reunion with Ruben Amorim for a while.
Arsenal is reportedly interested as well. After Gyokeres was asked “if he likes London” in a post-match interview last month, the Portuguese publication A Bola asserted that the Gunners were the “best-placed club” to recruit him.
On that time, Gyokeres showed his passion for Lisbon instead of answering the question.
However, the Sweden international made an intriguing remark on his future while on the Flymodus podcast during a recent FaceTime chat with his old teammate Leo Østigård.
“Where are you going in the summer transfer window?” asks podcast presenter Bernt Hulsker at the beginning of the talk, as seen in the video below. Are you able to hint us? Is it Arsenal? What other options are there?
Gyokeres, who was obviously amused, downplayed the remarks, stating that people would have to wait and see. He went on to say, “Nobody knows anything yet,” “I wish I had a more fun answer, but that’s all I can say for now.”
Østigård, a former comrade, gave his farewell speech a few minutes later. Saying, “Viktor, great talking to you,” “See you soon, and text me when everything is signed and sorted down in Arsenal.”
Then Gyokeres answered: “Yes, indeed. “Yes!”
Fans’ reactions to the discussion, which was shared by the X account afcstuff on Monday afternoon, were not entirely consistent. Others disagreed, believing it to be a tongue-in-cheek remark that would eventually have no real significance.
According to one, Victor didn’t say anything to raise our hopes, but he also didn’t deny anything, so it seems to me that they are just buddies making jokes. We’ll see.
“It might be happening,” remarked another, and “Did Gyokeres just hint to his teammate about Arsenal?” wrote a third.

According to a fourth, “I think he’s just responding, ‘yes, yeah fine,’ to let them know when he makes up his mind. I don’t find anything in that. ‘Bro already signed in his mind,’ a fifth person added.
What do you think will happen to Gyokeres? Should he sign with Manchester United this summer, or is he the ideal man for Arsenal? Tell us in the comments section.
