FIFA Rule Could Give Tottenham Advantage vs PSG in UEFA Super Cup

A disturbing realization started to dawn over half of north London on Saturday night as the majority of the world watched in wonder as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 Champions League final. Even if PSG’s buildup play was flawless and their pressing strategy appeared to be unrelenting, Tottenham supporters are naturally worried about playing Luis Enrique’s team in the Super Cup final on August 13.

PSG eventually won their first major European trophy thanks to goals from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and 18-year-old Senny Mayulu, as well as a brace from Desire Doue. Only months after overcoming a 17-year trophy drought, the Lilywhites now have a chance at a second piece of silverware after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

Spurs may have an advantage when the two teams play at the Stadio Friuli in Italy, despite the fact that many have joked that Les Parisiens could have to create a new number simply to keep track of their goals against the Lilywhites. They will have a much fitter group when important players return from injuries following a demanding 2024–25 season, but that isn’t the only reason to have some faith.

FIFA Rule That Could Help Tottenham Win Super Cup

PSG players must get at least three weeks off to rest after Club World Cup

This season, PSG completely outperformed their rivals, winning every prize available to them in order to clinch an unprecedented treble. However, they might be a wounded beast when they play Tottenham in the Super Cup. International duty comes first, followed by World Cup qualifying for some players and the contentious Club World Cup in the USA, which is a 32-team competition to determine the best club in the world.

With £775 million in prize money and almost £100 million going to the victors, FIFA has made it financially enticing. But according to Football London, the organization that oversees world football also requires that players take a minimum of three weeks off following any significant competition. The players’ summer vacation, which should last until at least August 3, would only start on July 13 if PSG advanced to the championship game at New York’s MetLife Stadium.

Enrique might decide to give important players even more time off following a demanding season that could end up totaling 66 games (Spurs played 60). Spurs, on the other hand, will be as focused as possible because they had preseason and summer rest before the Premier League began a few days after the Super Cup. That same weekend, Ligue 1 begins as well, providing PSG little leeway.

Many players may wind up playing football for over three years without much of a break due to the ill-timed Club World Cup, which is held just one year before the 2026 World Cup. It is still unclear what kind of PSG team will play in the Stadio Friuli on August 13 and what physical state they will be in. Enrique will need to be mindful about his minute management. Tottenham should start the match sharper than the other team, but they still need to add players this summer.
