Six reasons Sir Jim Ratcliffe shouldn’t sack Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag

As Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag has now won two trophies in his two seasons in charge, and he has at least postponed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s axe-swinging, which was sharpened in advance of the FA Cup final.

Following the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Manchester City, the Dutchman was optimistic. It seems that the fans’ attitudes have changed, with the majority now wanting to see what Ten Hag can accomplish with some stability the following season.

We’re here to help Sir Jim with his decision by providing five reasons, starting with the obvious, why Ten Hag should be given more time.

Two championships in two years
After his team declared victory on Saturday, Ten Hag remarked, “At the end of the day, it’s about winning trophies.” He then made it clear that if they didn’t want him anymore, he would go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what he had done his entire career.

It’s a fantastic line that will have gone over well with Manchester United fans, who have seen their team win two trophies and have visited Wembley five times in the last two seasons under Ten Hag.

In the past two campaigns, only supporters of Manchester City have witnessed their team win more awards. Even the most naive Red Devils supporters would find it difficult to argue that United is in any position to challenge City for the title the following season given the Premier League table and their season’s results, but despite their inability to unseat the top-flight giants, they have more to show than Arsenal, Liverpool, or any other team.

Since Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford, Manchester United has defeated Manchester City to win a trophy. But what have the other purported rivals of Pep Guardiola’s massive team accomplished? Sweet f*** everyone.
