Paul Scholes claims Ruben Amorim is ‘lying’ in post-match interview after Lyon draw

Following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal, Paul Scholes has asserted that Ruben Amorim in his post-match interview ‘lied’ about the situation.

After Thiago Almada scored the first goal, United were on the verge of gaining a 2-1 lead going into the second leg at Old Trafford. Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee turned things around for Amorim’s team, as they capitalised on the opportunity to take the lead.

However, Rayan Cherki scored an equaliser just thirty seconds before the end of the game, so preventing the home team from suffering a loss.

After being referred to be the “worst custodian in United’s history” by Nemanja Matic, a former Red Devils midfielder who is now a star for Lyon, Andre Onana made two blunders that were extremely expensive.

While he was caught off guard by a free kick that went all the way in, he also missed a shot, which allowed Cherki to give him the opportunity to follow up in the last embers.

After the match, Amorim gave an interview to TNT Sports in which he refused to blame the Cameroon. He stated, “When one player makes a mistake, all of the team makes a mistake, so we continue like that.”

Amorim stated that he would not be removing Onana, despite the fact that there were a total of nine mistakes that resulted in goals. He went on to say, “No, we’ll continue to do the same thing in training, seeing the game, and trying to choose the best eleven to win every match.”

Paul Scholes is of the opinion that Ruben Amorim finds United’s team to be unappealing.
In addition, Amorim asserted that United performed well and that they are “improving game by game.” However, Scholes, a legendary player for United, was not on board with this assertion and feels that Amorim does not like the team that he has available to him.

Following the draw, Scholes made the following statement in an honest assessment: “To tell you the truth, I don’t believe he believes that.”

“I don’t believe that he has a positive attitude towards his team.

It is clear from the manner in which he is standing on the sidelines that he is aware of the fact that he does not have a particularly strong football squad, and I believe that he desires and requires better.

“I constantly get the impression that he is dissatisfied, and the manner in which he is speaking gives me the impression that he is dissatisfied with what he has, and he requires something greater.

“Everyone is aware that he needs to improve if Manchester United is going to be able to compete and get to the point where we want them to be, and that is evident everywhere on the pitch.

“I believe that he can be quite pleased with the defensive performance of his team — they have been looking quite tight and quite solid as of late, but it has eliminated the goal threat that they ought to have.”

The next thing that Scholes said was, “The quality around the pitch isn’t quite there right now.” They are unable to maintain control in the middle of the pitch, and he is aware of this fact; he is not an idiot.

The impression I get is that this football team is nowhere near the standard that he wants and expects, and it could take two or three years to get something that is a lot better and a lot more enjoyable to watch, but that is what he will fight for. He is never going to say it, but he does not like the football team. I could be wrong, but the impression I get is that he does not like the football team.
