Paul Scholes Claims Ruben Amorim Was Lying in Interview After Lyon 2-2 Man Utd

In his post-match interview after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Lyon on Thursday, Paul Scholes stated that he thinks Ruben Amorim was lying. Thiago Almada gave Lyon the lead in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal before Leny Yoro’s strikes and Joshua Zirkzee’s goal in the 88th minute momentarily put United ahead. But Rayan Cherki tied the score and dashed United’s hopes in the 95th minute.

Boss Amorim told reporters that his team “did well” and is “improving game by game,” expressing his continued satisfaction with the performance of his players. Compared to when he first arrived, the response to his team was far more positive, indicating that the former Sporting manager has made improvement this season.

Scholes, who has won two Champions Leagues and eleven Premier League titles with Manchester United, flatly rejected the judgement, implying that Amorim himself didn’t genuinely believe what he was saying.

Scholes Claims Ruben Amorim Was Lying About Liking His Team

He doesn’t think the United manager was being honest in his assessment

“I don’t think he believes that to be honest with you,” the 66-time England international, who has long been frustrated by his own current United dismal performance, said on TNT Sports. “I don’t think he likes this team. I think he knows he hasn’t got a great football team and I think he wants better – he needs better. I think you could see that with the way he is on the touchline, he always looks disappointed to me. The way he was speaking there tells me he’s disappointed with what he’s got.”

“Everyone knows he needs better if he’s going to challenge and be where Manchester United wants to be,” Scholes continued. It’s all over the pitch, in my opinion.

He went on to imply that it might take United “two or three years” to resolve their problems and advance from their current position.

Since coming to the Theatre of Dreams in November, Amorim has only added one player, Patrick Dorgu, a full-back who cost £25 million.

Even though that signing has received a lot of criticism, it’s unclear what other additions the 40-year-old would like to make to a team that has fallen to its lowest league finish ever but now has a good chance of making it to the Europa League’s latter stages.
