Eden Hazard’s Response to Toni Kroos Saying he ‘Let His Career Die’ at Real Madrid

Hazard’s disastrous time at Real Madrid was characterised by weight problems, injuries, and poor play.
He showed a carefree approach towards critical remarks by responding to Kroos’ criticism with fun.
Hazard maintained his professionalism and love of food and beverages with friends in spite of his difficulties in Spain.
Eden Hazard reacted to Toni Kroos’ criticism over the Belgian’s lacklustre Real Madrid tenure. During his time at Chelsea, the winger was among the Premier League’s most unstoppable players. This resulted in him landing his ideal move to Spain for £88.5 million.

Hazard was brought in as Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir apparent, but he fell short of expectations for a variety of reasons, including bad form, injuries, and weight problems. Fans and teammates alike were affected by his lacklustre spell, as Kroos failed to acknowledge that the 34-year-old was a poor transfer and allowed his career to wane at the Bernabeu.

Following his hearing of the criticism, the 2015 PFA Player of the Year gave a response that only he could.

Eden Hazard’s Reaction to the Criticism of Toni Kroos
The ugly remark from his old teammate did not dissuade the Belgian.

Hazard was asked what he thought of the World Cup winner’s remarks during an interview with John Obi Mikel on “The Obi One podcast.” As expected, the assailant replied with a smile that was smeared all over his face. He informed the hosts:

“No [if he makes critical remarks at any time of day].” He came to my house yesterday to pick up his child, you know. There’s nothing wrong with that.

“I am still doing John Obi Mikel’s podcast, and we had a ******** conversation. Man, I don’t give a damn. They are free to think as they like. No issue. I’m able to sleep.

The former Premier League winner is a person who enjoys life without taking things too seriously, as evidenced by his attendance on the podcast. This mindset, according to some of his detractors, is what ultimately caused him to fail at Madrid and terminate his brilliant career too soon.

In response to these allegations, the athlete told The Sun through L’Equipe that he felt as though he behaved like a professional during his playing career, despite not believing in dieting:

“I didn’t eat a burger every day, but I also wasn’t minding what I ate. For sixteen years, you can’t do that. It didn’t seem significant to me.

“I enjoy dining and drinking with my pals. I knew I wouldn’t be like that, but if you want to play till you’re forty, then OK.”

Eden Hazard’s Real Madrid Record

Kroos follows him in early retirement

After years of rumours, the Chelsea star arrived in Madrid with great excitement. Florentino Perez broke the club’s transfer record, which Gareth Bale had previously held, by bringing him in. Hazard was unable to replace Ronaldo, who left for Juventus the previous season, despite his success in London.

The former Belgian captain only scored seven goals in 76 games while playing in the Spanish capital, while also dishing up 12 assists. His transfer fee comes to £1.14 million on average for each game he plays for the team. Over the course of the four years, the forward lost exactly 500 days due to injury, which means he missed a fourth of his time with the team.

It’s noteworthy to note that Kroos, his critic, ended his career early even though he undoubtedly had a better career in Spain and is one of the greatest Real Madrid players of all time. In fact, the German joined the ranks of great football players who chose to retire sooner than necessary in the summer of 2024, when still in his prime (having just won a Champions League and La Liga double).
