This is the full extent of the injury that Erling Haaland sustained during Manchester City’s FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Bournemouth on Sunday. Manchester City has confirmed this information.
Pep Guardiola’s team overcame a deficit to win 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium. Evanilson scored the first goal for the Cherries, and Haaland and Omar Marmoush added the second goal through their respective goals.
However, the victory was somewhat tainted by what appeared to be an ankle injury sustained by Haaland during the second half of the game.
After the victory, the Norwegian was seen walking with crutches and wearing a protective boot; however, there was no indication that the problem was particularly severe at that point in time.
City has now confirmed that Haaland has sustained an injury to his left ankle. The 24-year-old player is scheduled to visit a specialist in order to receive a definitive diagnosis regarding his condition.
City has stated that they ‘expect’ Haaland to return before the end of the 2024/25 season; however, they have not confirmed a specific return date for Haaland.
The following is an excerpt from the statement: “Erling went through preliminary examinations in Manchester on Monday morning. He will now seek the consultation of a specialist in order to determine the full extent of the injury.” The evaluation is still ongoing in order to determine the complete prognosis.
“The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.”
At a time when City is fighting to finish in the top four – or five, depending on the outcome of UEFA’s co-efficient qualification ranking – places of the Premier League in order to ensure that they will be able to participate in the Champions League the following season, the injury could be a significant setback for the club.
Guardiola’s team has already been eliminated from the European competition after suffering a loss to Real Madrid in the play-off stage. This means that they will be able to concentrate on domestic competitions for the remainder of the season.
Although City is currently in fifth place, they are only four points ahead of Bournemouth, who are currently in tenth place due to their position.
Newcastle, who are currently in sixth place and are one point behind Liverpool, have a game in hand as a result of their victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, which took place before the most recent international break.
