Barcelona could lose match they won 3-0 as La Liga opponents ‘investigate potential FIFA rule breach’

In light of the fact that an investigation into ‘potential rule breaches’ is currently underway, it has been disclosed that Barcelona may be required to forfeit a La Liga match that they won 3-0.

With 63 points after playing in 28 matches, the team coached by Hansi Flick is currently in first place in La Liga.

On Thursday night, they defeated Osasuna by a score of 3-0. Manager Flick was critical of the fact that the match took place less than 48 hours after some of his players had played while they were on international duty when the match took place.

Despite this, Barca was able to secure the victory by scoring goals through the efforts of Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Robert Lewandowski.

In the event that ‘potential rule breaches’ are demonstrated, however, they run the risk of completely losing the game and being compelled to give up the victory.

Based on the information provided by Cadena COPE, it has been reported that Osasuna is currently conducting an investigation to determine whether Barcelona fielded a player who was not eligible to play.

However, due to a knee injury, centre-back Inigo Martinez was forced to withdraw from Spain’s international squad at the beginning of the international break during the match that took place on Thursday night. Martinez played the full 90 minutes.

In accordance with FIFA regulations, a player who has withdrawn from his national team squad is not permitted to play for his club for a period of five days following the conclusion of the final match of an international window match.

An international window is defined as “a period of nine days beginning on a Monday morning and ending on Tuesday night the following week,” according to the official regulations that FIFA has established.

It was only four days that passed between Spain’s last match of the international break, which was against the Netherlands, and the match against Osasuna. Spain’s last match of the break was against the Netherlands.

The entire Article 5 regulation is as follows: “A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released pursuant to the provisions of this annexe, plus an additional period of five days.”

According to reports, Osasuna is currently investigating whether Martinez was released by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) due to a medical report into his injury or whether they reached an agreement with Barcelona to allow Martinez to play in their upcoming match.
