What Van Dijk and PSG Chiefs Spoke About After UCL Match Amid Links

The future of Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool is still up in the air. One of the top defenders in international football, the Dutchman will be 34 in a few months.

His contract with the Merseyside club expires in the summer, and it is uncertain if it will be extended, even if he is still playing at an exceptionally high level.

The top football teams in the world will undoubtedly be keeping a careful eye on Van Dijk’s contract status. One team that has recently been connected to the enormous defender is Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool’s Champions League rivals.

There have been rumours of Van Dijk joining PSG.
Following the Champions League match, Van Dijk was seen chatting with PSG executives.

After Liverpool’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield last week, rumours that Van Dijk was linked to the French powerhouse grew more intense. Van Dijk was seen chatting with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and their Sporting Director Luis Campos following the game, which PSG won on penalties.

Although the nature of the conversation was unknown at the time, it was believed that a possible summer transfer was being discussed because Van Dijk’s future at Liverpool was uncertain.

Leading French journalist Julien Laurens, however, has finally revealed the conversation’s true nature and what was said. Broadcaster Laurens, who has worked for ESPN, BT Sport, and RMC Sport, among other companies, has denied speculations that he is moving to PSG, stating that their chat was about the two games that were played between the two teams. On X, he wrote:

“Virgil Van Dijk and PSG are not at odds. No discussions, no bargaining, no promise of a 100 million dollar signing fee. Nothing. After the second leg of the Champions League, Virgil spoke with Luis Campos and Nasser Al Khelaifi about their two games, not his future.

Journalist Josué Cassé of Foot Mercato has backed up Laurens’ remarks by claiming that PSG is not currently interested in signing Van Dijk.

In recent years, Van Dijk has also been evasive when discussing his future. According to the Athletic, the Dutchman responded, “I still have no idea at the moment,” when asked if he would return for another chance at Champions League glory with Liverpool the following season following the team’s defeat to PSG. Sincerely, I don’t know. There is no hold on it. There is nothing on hold. I say the same thing again and over. My entire concentration is on the ten games left.

You guys will be aware of any news. I’m not even familiar with myself. Everyone is aware that some discussions go place behind the scenes, but that’s all there is to it. Right now, I have no idea what will occur the following year. Anyone who claims to know is being dishonest with you.
