In response to the fact that he was called up to the Three Lions squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia, an England player has claimed that Thomas Tuchel referred to him as “unprofessional.”
Although he has not yet been in charge of a game, Tuchel, who is 51 years old, was appointed as England’s head coach in October 2024. However, he did not officially begin his new role until January 2025.
On the other hand, he will finally get the opportunity to watch his players compete when they play Albania at Wembley Stadium on Friday, March 21. They will then return to the national stadium three days later to play Latvia.
The former Chelsea manager has made a number of unexpected selections for his first squad, including Jarell Quansah, a defender for Liverpool, and Jordan Henderson, a midfielder for Ajax. Both of these players are among the unexpected selections.
However, another surprise pick has stated that he was forced to apologise to the England manager after the German stated that it was “unprofessional” for him to be awake after 10 o’clock at night.
The player in question is Dan Burn, who plays for Newcastle United and was just recently called up for his very first international international match.
According to what Burn said during a press conference that took place on Tuesday, “The manager FaceTimed us on Tuesday and said that they were debating calling us (me) up and would let us know whether or not they would call us up on Thursday.”
“At that point, it was six o’clock on Thursday night, and I had not heard anything. I told my wife that nothing was going to happen because I had not heard anything.
I received a text message at ten o’clock asking, “Are you still awake?” Almost immediately, I responded with a yes.
“To begin, he expressed his displeasure with my lack of professionalism by stating that I had not been in bed by ten o’clock, and I apologised for that.”
It is highly likely that Tuchel made this statement in jest.
As for Burn, he has had one of the best weeks of his footballing career. On Sunday, he scored the opening goal for Newcastle in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. This victory put an end to Newcastle’s seventy-year drought of not winning a domestic trophy.
“He [Tuchel] just said that he needed to end the day on a good note, that he wanted us to be in the squad, just to do what he felt my strengths were, which I explained when I spoke to him,” Burn added. “He wanted us to be so that we could do what he felt my strengths were.”
Additionally, the Magpies’ defender revealed that he was not present in order to “be a cheerleader” and asserted that he desired to participate in the game.
