After leading Newcastle United to victory against Premier League leaders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, Paul Scholes has ruthlessly dismissed claims that the manager should have a statue outside St. James’ Park. Local youngster Dan Burn and Alexander Isak both scored goals to help the team win 2-1 and turn the tide of their 2023 final loss to Manchester United.
With the victory, Newcastle ended their 70-year losing streak and won their first major domestic prize since the FA Cup in 1955. Howe’s accomplishment might be sufficient to solidify his place in club legend, but Scholes’ response to his being immortalised with a statue has generated a lot of controversy.

The former midfielder laughed at claims Howe deserved a statue
“The League Cup was won by you. F****** hell! All year long, everyone tries to get knocked out of it.
"Eddie Howe… Does he deserve a statue?" 🤩

Scholes, however, gave the Magpies some credit for their performance at Wembley Stadium, saying that Eddie Howe’s squad had complete control of the game from the first whistle and that Liverpool never looked like they were going to win.
Fans have criticised Scholes for his interpretation of the festivities, even though suggestions for a new statue in Howe’s honour may be a bit early given the rumours that the Englishman might be fired for failing to lead Newcastle back to the Champions League after leading them to qualification in his first full season in charge.
Fans Slam Scholes’ Carabao Cup Take
Supporters are not happy with the pundit’s attempt to downplay Newcastle’s success
Numerous people have expressed disapproval of Scholes’ remarks on social media, claiming that the midfield player is unaware of the significance of the situation in light of Newcastle’s past. In response to the video of Scholes dismissing statue claims, Luke Edwards of the Telegraph posted on X: “Paul Scholes’ response here is very terrible. total ignorance of the goals and aims of other clubs and football in general. mocking, contemptuous, and out of date.
Similar opinions were expressed by other fans, one of whom wrote: “This is a terrible appearance for Scholes. Completely disconnected from the fans. Personified entitlement. “What a haughty, out of touch, and classless reaction from Paul Scholes,” one person said, while another added, “He will never get it.”
“That response from Scholes is absolutely rank,” a fourth person said. haughty, outdated, and utterly lacking in style. After decades of disappointment through generations of fans, ending that 70-year wait was inevitably going to result in an outpouring of emotion. However, a fifth also criticised the former midfielder, posting: “Paul Scholes just doesn’t understand football does he.” The emotion you get after winning something is more important than the awards you receive. And will there be a more significant or sentimental feeling than that in seventy years? No chance.
Paul Scholes’ reaction here is genuinely awful. Complete lack of a wider understanding of football and other clubs dreams and aspirations. Mocking, dismissive and out of touch. A great player, one of the best, but this is embarrassing from him. https://t.co/5KIyn95vix
