From big-ticket acquisitions to undiscovered treasures, the 2024–2025 season has produced some amazing transfers. As some of the greatest football players repeatedly demonstrate, transfer fees ultimately don’t necessarily represent a player’s actual value. Here is our ranking of the top 10 signings of the season thus far, based on metrics such as goals, assists, average ratings, and overall influence.
10. Giovani Lo Celso (Real Betis)
After failing to establish himself in North London, the two-time Copa América champion was loaned to Villarreal from January 2022 to June 2023. Giovani Lo Celso made the decision to return to Spain at the age of 28, joining Real Betis in August 2024 after briefly returning to Tottenham and displaying signs of promise under Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham was compelled to sell him for just €5 million after initially paying €48 million for him; this move has swiftly turned out to be one of the summer’s best deals.
In La Liga, the Argentine midfielder has found his form and is once again making a name for himself. He has contributed nine goals for the Spanish team thus far this season.
9. Napoli’s Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku has been unstoppable for Napoli since leaving AS Roma. He has seven goals and seven assists in just 20 games. The Belgian striker appears to have settled back into his routine in Italy, contributing significantly to Napoli’s attack and influencing their standing in the standings once more.
8. Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke
With 11 goals and 6 assists in just 29 games, Solanke has blended very well with Tottenham. Spurs’ attack has been bolstered by his presence! Double goal contribution against Liverpool, double again united With a double V against in-form Aston Villa and an assist against Man City, he is demonstrating that he was a valuable addition to the team.
7. FC Porto’s Samuel Aghehowa
One of the better additions this season has been Samuel Aghehowa, the striker who was once known as Samuel Omorodion.
By acquiring the young Spanish U21 striker from Atletico Madrid for an initial sum of €15 million at the end of the most recent transfer window, Porto “pulled a rabbit out of the hat” and secured 50% ownership of the player.
Given the potential the 20-year-old had already shown in his developing career, Madrid was taken aback by his departure. Few, though, anticipated that the striker of Nigerian heritage, who was born in Melilla, would have such an instant impact.
Samu has scored 18 goals in 23 outings for the Portuguese team since joining Porto.
6. Galatasaray member Victor Osimhen
Osimhen joined Galatasaray and is doing well after his attempt to join the Premier League and his contract renewal with Napoli failed. The Nigerian striker has quickly established himself in Turkey, tallying 13 goals and 5 assists in just 17 games.
5. The Atletico Madrid player Julian Álvarez
After a sluggish start at his new club, the 24-year-old World Cup winner has finally gotten off to a fast start.
With 14 goals and two assists in 29 games, Álvarez has been instrumental in Atletico’s La Liga title win. They are presently ranked 11th in the Champions League standings, one point ahead of Real Madrid, who are in second position, and three points ahead of Barcelona.
4. Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy
With 16 goal contributions in 18 games, Guirassy, the goal machine from Stuttgart the previous season, is still making an impression at Dortmund. The striker is one of the Bundesliga’s most dependable goal scorers since he doesn’t appear to be slowing down.
3. Bayern Munich player Michael Olise
The French winger Olise has made an immediate impact at Bayern, contributing to 16 goals in 24 appearances thus far. Bayern’s assault now has another dimension thanks to his speed and winging prowess, and he is hungry to contribute even more.
2. Barcelona’s Dani Olmo
Since joining Barcelona, the SuperCopa champion and top scorer in Euro 2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary. Olmo has scored six goals and provided three assists in 17 games, claiming nine goal contributions in 16 club starts, despite Barcelona’s recent performance. He has been an excellent addition to the Blaugrana, and his influence is evident.
1. Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé
Mbappé’s signing with Real Madrid was a genuinely historic move that rocked the sports world. The former PSG player is still getting used to Madrid, but his stats are already impressive with 15 goals and 4 assists in 28 appearances.
His influence has been further cemented when he added two trophies to his collection with the Spanish giants. Mbappé, who is widely considered the season’s greatest acquisition, keeps up his good work.
