Following an injury sustained in the latter stages of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday, Scott McTominay hopes to be “back on the pitch very soon.”

McTominay, who entered the game as a second-half substitute, was only able to play for twenty-five minutes before needing to be replaced. When he was first introduced, Mason Mount made a fleeting appearance off the bench during stoppage time, replacing Kobbie Mainoo.

McTominay again started from the bench against Chelsea, missing two games earlier this month due to an additional knock. He was a regular under Erik ten Hag, but in the last few months, his role has decreased.

The 27-year-old is one of several players who could leave in the summer when his contract expires in a little over a year, though he has an option for an additional year. He has developed into a significant goalscoring threat and is expected to play a significant role for Scotland at Euro 2024.

After confirming his injury, he is now doubtful for United’s upcoming away match against Crystal Palace. He posted on Instagram, “I slipped and fell awkwardly on my knee, similar to against Chelsea.”

“It was just hyperextension, nothing serious, but I was upset and angry that I mistook it for something more.” With crossed fingers and a heart emoji, I’m hoping to return to the field as soon as possible to support the team as much as I can.”

Following the draw with Burnley, Ten Hag stated, “We need to evaluate with the physicians. I am not aware of the diagnosis at this time.”

This season, McTominay has scored seven goals for United in the league. He frequently scores significant goals in the first half of the campaign. He has now gone eight games without a goal in a drought.

Next Monday, United plays Palace, giving McTominay a week off to heal. Ten Hag’s team wants to stay ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle in the race for Europa League football.

For the time being, he becomes one of many players—including Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof—who are out with injuries.
