This season, Celtic’s first Europa League matchup is against Red Star Belgrade.
With a victory in Serbia, Brendan Rodgers will be eager to shake off the memories of Celtic’s unsuccessful Champions League qualifying attempt.
Celtic will play Red Star for the first time since they faced the Serbians in the European Cup in 1968, and Rodgers will have to deal with a hostile crowd when the game kicks off at 8 p.m.
Speaking before the game, Celtic winger Benjamin Nygren talked about how he and the new summer additions are adjusting to life at the club. During the pre-game press conference, the Celtic player couldn’t contain his laughter when a journalist made fun of Rangers.
Benjamin Nygren explains the behind-the-scenes team-building that Celtic does.
In response to a question about how Celtic is assisting them all in settling in, Nygren joined the team this summer along with Kelechi Iheanacho and nine other new recruits.
“I know it’s a bit tricky because your manager is sitting next to you, but he spoke about that idea of connection and the team sort of coming together,” a journalist asked on Celtic TV [16m 28s].
“How does that appear? How does the squad feel about that? Bring us in and give us a brief explanation of how that feels.
Nygren: “It’s connections inside a team, of course. Perhaps it won’t work flawlessly the first few times. It seems to be getting better and better.
