Xabi Alonso ‘targeting’ three signings if he gets Real Madrid job that would send shockwaves across Europe

If Xabi Alonso is to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager at the end of the current campaign, he has identified three possible summer additions.

After a dismal season on all fronts, David Ornstein of The Athletic has announced that Ancelotti will depart Madrid at the end of the current campaign.

This summer’s Club World Cup or holding onto the La Liga title are Ancelotti’s sole chances of winning a trophy after losing to Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final and being eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal.

But with Barcelona leading the league by four points, even that looks like a difficult challenge, and if Madrid loses in the US, a trophyless season is a definite possibility.

Now that Ancelotti’s exit is all but certain, everyone is wondering who will take over at the Bernabeu, and Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen is looking more and more likely to do so.

According to reports, the former Madrid midfielder has already decided which three transfer targets he wants to join him in the Spanish capital, putting him in a strong position to rejoin his old team.

Diario AS claims that if Alonso decides to transfer to Madrid, he will sign Jonathan Tah, Florian Wirtz, and Martín Zubimendi.

Although Zubimendi has been strongly linked to Arsenal this summer, the Gunners have not yet triggered his £50 million release clause.

With Bayern Munich gaining ground in the competition to recruit the midfield player, Wirtz, who is presently managed by Alonso in Germany, also appears to be leaving.

Alonso responded to the rumors that he was linked to the Madrid position and stated that Leverkusen was the only thing on his mind.

Alonso, whose team is six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, stated, “It’s not a good time to discuss the future.”

We are at a critical point in the season.

He went on, “I don’t want to talk about rumors and speculation.” “[I am aware] that this is taking place, but I am more focused on the present.”
