‘Worst captain we’ve ever had’ – Son Heung-min labelled ‘deluded’ for interview after Arsenal north London derby defeat as Spurs fans slam ‘disgrace of a captain’

Frustrated Tottenham supporters have labelled Son Heung-min the “most ineffectual captain we have ever had” following his response to the north London derby loss.

Spurs approached their recent encounter with arch-rivals Arsenal seeking a performance and outcome that would initiate their 2024-25 campaign. They suffered a 1-0 defeat, with Brazilian defender Gabriel scoring the sole goal for the Gunners.

Tottenham were competitive throughout the match, but without posing a significant danger. Captain Son remarked to Sky Sports afterward: “We dominated the game; the football was present, yet we conceded from a set-piece once more.” We accomplished that last season, and it is really annoying. I am certain the fans are equally disheartened. We must enhance our performance entirely; this is a challenging period, and we must remain together. We are entering the last third, but the players must assume responsibility for scoring. The most challenging aspect of football is making the correct decision and executing with precision. We will recover robustly; there still a considerable journey ahead.

The remarks have elicited a vehement reaction from several Tottenham supporters, who contend that South Korean international Son is not exhibiting the necessary degree of leadership. @SamuraiTHFC labelled Son a “disgraceful captain,” while @james_h_g remarked: “Dominating does not equate to winning, you fool.” Undoubtedly, he must be the most inept commander we have ever encountered. He is somewhat far from it at present and has been for several months. @perseusperseid stated: ‘There is a lack of leadership on the pitch; assign the captaincy to someone with a commanding presence and the ability to inspire others; Son is not a suitable captain’.

@DeadStarLegacy replied to Son’s assertions by stating: “Dominated the game?” You failed to achieve a single expected goal against Arsenal’s reserve team. These thoughts were reiterated by @JohnnyBowe1, who stated: “You dominated nothing.” All bluster and no results once more. Defensively, we are in disarray, especially regarding crosses. Vicario exhibits uncertainty on crosses, and teams are aware of this vulnerability. There is no prolific striker at the forward position.

Spurs have garnered only four points from four matches this season, positioning them 13th in the Premier League standings. Head coach Ange Postecoglou is facing scrutiny and will want a favourable reaction from his players during the Carabao Cup match against Coventry and the Premier League home fixture against Brentford.
