Why Ruud van Nistelrooy Dropped Harry Winks From Leicester Squad

Leicester City lost to the defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday night, continuing their poor play this week. Leicester had lost six straight games going into the contest and had failed to score a goal throughout that time.

City easily defeated Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team, who were the clear underdogs going into the match at the Etihad Stadium, 2-0. Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush’s goals in the first half were sufficient to send the Foxes to yet another loss as they got closer to making a comeback to the Championship.

Harry Winks was unexpectedly left out of the Manchester game squad. The Englishman was left out of the starting lineup for Wednesday’s contest, despite having been benched in Leicester’s previous six games before the meeting versus City. It’s now clear why he didn’t even make the squad.

Why Harry Winks Was Left Out of Leicester’s Match Against Manchester City
He and Van Nistelrooy got into a furious argument.

The Telegraph has now disclosed that Winks and Van Nistelrooy got into a furious argument before the match, which resulted in the 29-year-old being cut from the Leicester team.

Winks is one of three senior players who make the daily journey of almost ninety miles to Leicester’s north Leicestershire training facility. The players would train in the afternoon before a session the following morning, and Van Nistelrooy, who is considered to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job, was eager for Winks to remain overnight to help with preparation for their match versus City.

Winks, however, disregarded Van Nistelrooy’s request, which led to a “heated row” between the two. The Dutchman became enraged at what he saw as indiscipline. Although it’s important to remember that Winks and his partner just welcomed their first child a few weeks ago, it is thought that he has personal reasons for refusing to spend the night at Leicester’s training facility.

The entire incident has generated controversy on Reddit, with users disagreeing on whether Van Nistelrooy had good reason to be upset and remove Winks from the team.

One admirer defended Winks by stating: “It’s a dumb request. Winks would like to remain at home rather than at the training facility, but it’s not like he refused to train. Even though it’s a long journey, I don’t see any issues as long as he regularly arrives at training on time. “Doesn’t he have a newborn at home?” said another. I can at least understand Winks’ reluctance to spend the night somewhere other than home.

One person said, “Fair play to Ruud,” while others supported Van Nistelrooy. Even if Leicester is probably going to lose, the players should nonetheless keep trying. Another commented: “Although I respect Harry’s stance, it is his responsibility and commitment to be present for practice and games (like the rest of the team) when the coach requests it. He is failing in his responsibilities if he is failing that.

Winks’ availability for Leicester’s upcoming game against Newcastle United on Monday night is currently unknown.
