Manchester City

Why Manchester City’s goal against Liverpool was allowed despite Ake’s ‘block’, whereas the goal in the Carabao Cup was disallowed.

Manchester City scored the first goal in their highly anticipated Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday. However, there was confusion among some viewers regarding the decision to accept the goal.

John Stones had exceptional situational awareness at Anfield as City earned a corner in the first half. With a significant portion of the penalty area unoccupied, Stones capitalized on the opportunity and successfully scored.

Nevertheless, it quickly became evident that Stones had ample leisure time due to Nathan Ake displacing Alexis Mac Allister. Gary Neville, who provided co-commentary for Sky, was among many who raised doubts about the validity of the goal.

Replays revealed that Ake and Mac Allister were present in the vicinity where the ball was sent, but the City player forcefully pushed the Argentine aside. Nevertheless, Mike Dean highlighted that Mac Allister was also engaging in shirt-pulling at Ake, using enough force to almost displace him.
