Why Lionel Messi’s Bodyguard Yassine Cheuko Has Been Banned by MLS and CONCACAF

The Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has said that his bodyguard would not be allowed to go to any further MLS or CONCACAF games with him. After the Argentine superstar moved to Inter Miami, club owner David Beckham reportedly recommended former Navy SEAL Yassine Cheuko, who was employed by the team.

The security officer, who was born in Paris, has shocked spectators by repeatedly storming onto the pitch of play to prevent pitch invaders from reaching Messi. His bizarre training routines have gone viral on social media. He has now disclosed the reason behind the MLS’s decision to bar him from pitchside going forward, citing what he called a “huge problem”.

Messi’s Bodyguard Explains MLS Ban

Cheuko has revealed why the league no longer wants him involved in matches

Speaking to House of Highlights, as per Marca, Cheuko revealed that he has been forbidden from working during MLS games as the league has determined they would take care of security for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner during matchdays. The former soldier, who has compared his bond with Messi to that of family, has criticised the decision and requested that the MLS let him assist going forward.

“They no longer permit me to play on the pitch. Only six people broke into the pitch during my seven years of working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League in Europe. After 20 months of work since my arrival in the United States, 16 people have already invaded the pitch. This is a serious issue. I am not the issue. Allow me to assist Messi.

“MLS and CONCACAF are fantastic, but we must cooperate. I enjoy being of service. I have a lot of experience in Europe, but I’m not superior to anyone. Although I respect their choice, I believe we could do better.

Messi’s transfer to the MLS has not only increased his star power, as evidenced by his steadily growing social media following, but it has also given many people the opportunity to witness his magic up close. Many have so tried to enter the pitch to catch a better look at the celebrity, but Cheuko has stopped the majority of them.

According to Cheuko’s remarks, the ban also appears to apply to Inter Miami’s CONCACAF matches, which pit the top teams from North America, the Caribbean, and Central America against one another in an annual continental competition that pushes the MLS team all the way to the Champions Cup quarterfinals against LAFC.
