Francesco Acerbi of Inter Milan has played a key role in his team’s run to the 2024–25 Champions League final versus Paris Saint-Germain. It has been revealed why one of the seasoned defender’s boots was seen to have a hole in it.
With a victory over Luis Enrique’s team, Simone Inzaghi’s team will be looking to become Nerazzurri legends. The Italian center-back’s skill might be the difference between winning gold and losing to Germany.
Why Acerbi Wore Boot Hole in It vs PSG
The Inter Milan veteran is, evidently, superstitious
As previously mentioned, Inzaghi, who is considered to be among the greatest football managers in the world, has relied heavily on the 37-year-old, who has played football in his native Italy his whole career, in the run-up to the main event.
Alongside fellow countryman Alessandro Bastoni, he has not only been a reliable defender, but his goal against Barcelona (see it below!)—a team far younger and fresher than the Serie A team—will be remembered for years to come.
On the verge of elimination, Acerbi sprung up in an odd place – inside Barcelona’s danger area and flicked home a cross to send the tie into extra-time. Davide Frattesi scored the winner, but the wily defender’s goal was equally vital.
He assumed they were a good luck charm after noticing that the boot he had used to score his maiden goal at Europe’s top table had torn on the big toe, according to Football Italia.
He had to make a choice before the Munich final. Would he a) switch up his shoes like all football players do? or b) would it depend on his superstitious belief that he will be lucky in the final because of his perforated boot? Naturally, he went with the latter.
Acerbi had chosen to cut and replace his shoes during his team’s Serie A match against Torino, but the damaged boot—which the veteran saw as a sign of good fortune—was back on display as Inter faced PSG, France’s most powerful team.
