Why Curtis Jones, Arne Slot, & Abdoulaye Doucoure Were Sent Off in Everton 2-2 Liverpool

Everton equalized with one of the game’s last kicks against Liverpool, and the two teams drew 2-2 in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park, making it an unforgettable match. However, after the final whistle blew and Curtis Jones, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Arne Slot were all dismissed, the drama didn’t stop with the battle.

Things got off to a thrilling start as Everton seized the lead early via Beto, and the evening seemed like a major event. However, Alexis Mac Allister quickly equalized with a brilliant header, thus the lead was short-lived. The two teams had 30 points and 14 league spots between them, but they were considerably closer than anyone could have predicted.

Everton gave the Reds a lot of trouble, especially in the second half, and even had a goal disallowed for offside. However, as they have done so frequently this season, Arne Slot’s team rallied and turned the tide. In order to take advantage of a clearance and shoot it past Jordan Pickford, Mohamed Salah was in the right place at the right moment. They appeared to have taken all three points, but James Tarkowski came through in the closing seconds, sending Goodison Park into a frenzy with a fierce volley past Alisson.

However, after the final whistle, things became heated, and Jones, Doucoure, and Slot were all sent out. The Toffees midfielder’s celebrations were the cause of it all.

Jones Took Issue With Doucoure’s Celebrations

He was celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans

Tension was high as the game was coming to a close, as is typical of football derbies, and Jones rushed over to confront the Toffees player when Doucoure chose to celebrate the win in front of the visiting Liverpool supporters. The players got into a fight after Jones shoved Doucoure, and several other celebrities joined in. The two men had to be separated because the Liverpool man was so enraged. Due to their involvement in the altercation, they were both given red cards.

Slot was given a red card for his troubles and had a lot to say about the situation to referee Michael Oliver. It was a crazy conclusion to a fantastic Merseyside Derby. Goodison Park’s exit from one of the most important derbies in British football was fitting.
